Help I haven't written an essay for 15 years!

I have applied to study with the OU in October to complete the degree I started 16 or 17 years ago.
I'm really looking forward to it, but am worried about the coursework as I am soo rusty.

I will be going straight into year 2, as I have credits to transfer, which makes it even more daunting.

What can I do to help prepare?

have a look in the library for study skills handbooks - Sheila Cottrell writes one. Gives a lot of useful tips for being prepared for the workload and academic conventions for writing assignments. I'm a 2nd year dodery old student who never thought I get to the end of yr 1. Good luck.

I'm going to be studying History.

I already read loads, so it shouldn't be too hard I suppose, and I work in a library, so have no trouble getting books

I suppose I was wondering if it was worth trying to find some essay questions to practise with or something like that?

Yes, have a go so that your first essay isnt one you are marked on, just to shake off the cobwebs.

I might have the odd question knocking about you could have a practice on. What topics and periods are you going to be doing?

schroeder · 15/06/2010 20:43

Oh that sounds good-my first course is called from enlightenment to romanticism.

I found some questions here that might make you think a little. I would suggest you write short quick essays as if for an exam.

I'm sure there are more out there if you have a look but there might be one on the link that appeals Your going to have fun with this topic I think!

Oh Thank you I will have a look. I am in equal measure I think excited and petrified about doing this.
