How can I get rid of the smell of pee from my flexitots?

My daughter is 21 months and she's had flexi tots with Motherease wraps since she was about 11 months and we've always struggled to get rid of the smell of pee from them. Never had this problem with her bambioneo polyster fluffy things which we used from 10 weeks till 11 months. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

My Bumgenius were a bit smelly until I started doing the powder wash as a cold cycle and then rinse cycle at 40, with the occasional 60 now and then.
Read somewhere (probably here) that washing the nappies on hot 'cooks in' the wee.
Seems to have worked for me.

Are you doing a cold rinse before you wash them? I haven't got flexitots but my fluffles smell if I skip the cold rinse.

I usually rinse (cold) then do a 60 wash at rinse plus. I use one powder tablet of fairy non bio (which I crumble to make sure it disolves) and a big slug of vinagar. I dry them in the airing cupboard (unless the weather is nice). Oh and I usually do a load every other day and dry pail.

About to put a load on, perhaps I should try a lower temp... Sometimes when it's a really wet nappy I can see glistening soap suds in the nappy so I'm a bit worried about build up, lots more rinsing is probably needed.

Anyone else heard about the "cooked pee" at 60 issue, it's new to me.

Thanks.

Yes, I've heard that a hot wash can 'set' the smell. Are you using a sanitizer?

I had this problem with my tots bots and this is what I did-

Be careful about the amount of washing powder you use, as this can build up and trap odours. I also just use one Fairy tablet with mine, I think that's about the right amount.

Hang them on the line if the weather is nice enough!

Finish the drying off in the tumble dryer along with an old bit of towel with a few drops of lavender oil on.

Just did a cold rinse followed by a short 30 degree wash and they were already smelling better. Then took out the wraps and net bag etc and did another rinse (still getting foam so obviously do have a build up isssue and maybe a cooked pee issue too!) Now I've put them on a 60 wash with an extra rinse without any soap. I'm hopeful this will help and just not thinking about my electricity and water metre! Thanks for your help.

Yep, sounds like detergent build-up, I have had that with my Flexi-tots. Do a few washes with no soap & line dry them in the sun. I do find the Flex-tots seem to get a bit stinkier than other nappies & I have had to strip them quite frequently.
