bit confused about bumgenius and liners

First timers here. We've just got our bumgenius one-size nappies very exciting. Only thing is that we're a bit confused do you also have to use a flushable liner with the nappy, or can the baby wee/poo straight onto the nappy? (Or can you choose to use a liner if you want to, but it's not necessary?)

Sorry if this is a really dumb question; it's just that this real nappy business seems to be full of endless options!

It probably depends on how old your baby is (i.e. whether he/she has started on solids). We're first timers here, DD is 4 months old and BF, and she just poos away onto the nappy. It all washes off fine and the bleaching of the sun is truly amazing!

I think people start to use liners when poos are more, ahem, solid, but I haven't got to that stage yet!

Have fun!

I have two girls, We dont use a liner with our 4 week old DD as her poo is runny so it washes off in washer and no stains, i wouldnt say you need one until baby is on solids tbh. Before we potty trained 3 year old DD1 tho we used a liner as her poos were huge and sticky (tmi sorry) and they would of stained nappy if not.

Again with DD1 we used disposable liners as poo was sticky and was easier to flush but for a smaller baby or toddler you could use fleece. Hope this helps

I would always use the liners as they will keep their bottoms dry even if the poo is shooting straight through them at first HTH

You don't need a liner (they can just wee and poo on to nappy) but I generally use them. I actually used washable fleece ones (from twinkleontheweb.co.uk) as they were shaped to fit rather than paper flushable ones which you end up having to fold. As I was washing the nappies, I didn't need to do anything special with the liners, plus it seemed much less wasteful than flushable ones.

I used them from the start - at first with bf poo it was because I didn't want to terribly stain the nappies, but then once DS was on solids, it was much easier to just shake the liner down the loo than the whole nappy, plus again it avoided bad stains to the nappies.

TBH I have got less religious about using them as I too have discovered that the sun will bleach out most stains - great news once your DC is eating blueberries, beetroot etc...
