Communal washing machine and washable nappies - just not possible is it?

I live in Switzerland in an apartment and we share a washing machine with the rest of the block (normal practice here).

I used washable nappies with dd1 and loved them, but then we had our own washing machine. I am trying to come to terms with the fact that it won't be possible this time round (due in December with dc2)

Is there ANY way it could be possible? I assume people must have done this back in the days before disposables were commonplace.

Switzerland is normally at the forefront of environmental issues but I have never, ever heard of anyone using washable nappies here

I did during the 10 mths i was in a refuge! had no problems really, as long as the solids were flushed, and i ran the machine on a clean cycle after. got lots of comments on the funkyness of my pocket nappies think I was the first person there to use cloth, but someone has to
