when to change from pram to pushchair?

DD is almost 12 weeks and I have a Silver Cross 3D which converts from rear-facing pram to forward-facing stroller (with 4 recline positions, including laying flat). DD currently in the pram, but I'm not sure when to change to other option...?

Part of me likes her facing me, but she's starting to want to look around and the stroller would obvioulsly help with that.
Once it's a stroller it is much less bulky to fold etc, so that would help me too!

It would mean she can no longer see me though... is she too young?
Also not sure at what age i can sit her up a bit?

WWYD?

Personally I would wait until she is at least 4 months.
My DS was exactly like this, but I think it is better for their spinal development if they can lay flat for as long as possible.
Perhaps try putting a small pillow or wedge underneath the pram mattress so that she is slightly elevated to see things better, but still flat IYSWIM?
I also think that it is reassuring for her at that age to still be able to see you (and for you to see her).

thanks TheChicOfIt

The pushchair does actually lie flat, and it would give her more room. Don't think she'd fit in the pram for much longer anyway. I'm just worried about her wondering where i've disappeared to! Although i know some prams / pushchairs face forward from the start...

Oh decisions, decisions

Maybe try it out and see whether she likes it? If you pull the hood up sometimes you can still see them in the forward facing mode, but that means you'll need a parasol or something (though at least if you can see her you will be able to adjust it so she's always in the shade)

Or sell it and get a second hand pushchair which can face both ways and still lie flat.

Yes if it was a viable option for you I would second what Bertie says re selling it and getting a both ways buggy.

I have the Quinny Buzz and it was really easy to make the transition at 4 months because a) they are facing you and b) it is very snug and comfy for them when they are still quite small, unlike say a Maclaren.

I'm sure you could get a version of that kind of buggy on ebay or in the free ads for very little money.

Hi!

I posted a very similar thread about a month ago

I have a Silver Cross 3D for my DS. From about 8 weeks we put him in the car seat which then attached to the pram - he loved looking around and being able to see whoever was pushing him.

I think he's still a bit young to move into the full pushchair yet (he's 14 weeks) but I think in a month or so we'll move him into it.
