It seems the article I want is not available through the online booking. Can't afford to waste a morning going up there to find I can't get what I need. Hmmm. Will look see if there is a site for Primary Science journal...

Need this as it seesm to be the only thing I can find written on annotated drawings and concept maps as assessment tools...

Grrr...it's too old. They have stuff on Primary Science from 2004 but the thing I want is from 1998

you need to become a registered reader - take 2 forms of id i think - then you can reserve the journal if it is not on open shelves and check to make sure it has been delivered before you go down. only problem is i don't think you can register online ....

Have you tried looking for the article on PubMed www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed

  • sometimes its free on there if you click on the article. Alternatively sometimes it has a button which will take you to the publisher and pay per article (usually pretty expensive though).

The BL will send you articles electronically, or on a 24h or 2h turnaround time. I'm a registered user, but I've never been to the BL in person - but possibly as its a work thing the ID stipulations are different - worth ringing them anyway.

Or other libraries near you - the RSM library is pretty good near Oxford Circus. And my local university library has quite a good selection of journals - and you can search online to see if they have the journal before making a trip.

Great advice, thanks all.

Tried pubmed but it's just an article on teaching primary science so more pedagogy than technical science.

Have been trying BL on and off today, not getting through but have head in the books so can't keep trying. So annoying. Why must these things be so tricky.

Your local library should be able to get you a copy from the British library, I think they would charge you a couple of pounds for the service and I don't know how long it would take.
If you haven't got time try giving them a ring.

Have you tried jstor? You can access it through your Athens Login, loads of journals there you can access through the internet
