We are four days into torrential rain which is forecast to go another five. I am running out of things I can do with DSs who are 2.5 and 1.5. Help, does anyone please have any ideas that can keep them entertained and us all sane as seriously it is impossible to go outside, even to the car. I did a run to the library last night when they were asleep but since they are both 5.00am wakers, the days are really really really long.........

Cornflour and water - make a thick paste in large bowl and let them play with it. Don't use too much water.

Make your own playdough. (Google for recipes)

Dancing

Let them go out in it anyway? Even if for few minutes?

Any friends nearby?

Cbeebies website.

Turn lounge into soft play area.

We have been dancing to the Wiggles under a sheet with torches which has caused great excitement. Playdough is a great idea, thanks Lot and cornflour muck. Playdate tmr - six boys under three, can't wait for some serious running around for them. It is about 8 degrees outside, so so grim.

What I used to do with DS when he was a toddler and we had shite weather....

making a train out of cushions, blankets etc. and going for a train ride in the hall .... all the way to the sitting room for a picnic tea

building dens under the kitchen table

baking, jam tarts were a favourite

putting him in his waterproofs and going out and getting very wet and jump in puddles, then a warm bath, hot chocolate and a DVD

playdough, fingerpainting, sticking and glueing stuff

dressing up in my old clothes

The other week I was going nuts from being stuck in so we had a birthday party for their toys. Made (crap looking) shortbread biscuits, I made hte dough and they played a bit, shoved chocolate buttons in and then cooked them. Had party music and some ballooons and let them have a big jumping session, then set up all the otys on picnic blanket and played pass the parcel (with one of their toys and some newspaper) Killed a few hours anyway!

Obstacle course is good, cushions to jump on, chairs to go under or over, tunnels from sheets and clothes horses.

if they are getting antsy get a pair of tights, let them rip up newspaper and shove it in the legs, this takes awhile, then hang them up in the middle of the room and give them each a wooden spoon to bash it with.

sod the mess and let them have a bag of pasta, rice, flour whatever with jugs, tupperware and bowls and spoons to 'mmix'

poor you, it's horrible beign stucvk in.

Thanks, these are all great ideas. Think my good parenting brain was washed away sometime yesterday so these should keep us sane hopefully till the stream goes down. Bday party a great idea, maybe we could do it for the baby DS1 has just told me he has in his tummy . We have baked enough muffins to feed an army, but jamtarts a great idea - sound good and messy.
