toddler slightly lopsided when walking - cause for concern?

15 month old, has been walking properly for a couple of weeks now and is gaining confidence. However he is ever so slightly lopsided when he walks - he sort of leads with his right foot.

It's hard to explain, but imagine you are facing straight forward, then turn about 10 degrees to the left, then walk in the direction you were originally facing anyway - you sort of sidestep.

He always does it, and it's always the same side. Is it likely to be a cause for concern or is it something a lot of toddlers have to start with when they are just finding their feet?

Thanks

I knew some one whose toddler did that and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Yikes!

I don't think it's that bad - have spoken to nursery and they all seem to think it's within the 'norm' for small child learning to walk.

My DD walks a bit lopsided. She didn't walk until she was 22 months so we saw a physio anyway before that. To cut a long story short, she is now nearly 3 and still doesn't walk 'properly' (but is totally capable of doing everything) as one of her ankles is a 'bit tight' (there is am more technical term!). I have to do some exercises with her. I would wait a few more weeks until he is walking more and see how he goes. If it gets worse it's probably worth talking to the HV and they can arrange for him to be looked at.
DS is 17 months and has just learnt to walk- he is all over the place too so it might just be normal toddler stuff...

Is probably perfectly normal. Walking on tiptoes with one foot/leg might be something to check for - like PP said might be tight muscles. My DD has weak trunk muscles so walks with a bit of a 'swagger' - getting much less noticeable with practice though!

If you are worried see GP about it. My 22mo does it too--it often looks like her top half is going in a completely different direction than her legs. I've been told it's normal but am keeping my eye on it to see that she doesn't favor one side too much.
