Big cook little cook - who actually does their 'recipes' at home

Just wondering after watching the tiger in the grass one today. It consisted of cold rice, grated carrot , raisins and cucumber. Mmmm yummy! Not to mention I'm not convinced about how nutritionally sensible their meals are.

Does anyone actually do them at home with their dcs?

Never mind how annoying bclc are!!

It didn't look particularly appetising, did it?

Proper sushi is yummy. I can't understand why you'd want to put kids off with such pathetic imitations of the real thing.

TheArmadillo · 21/05/2010 13:28

some of their combinations are vomit worthy and really weird sized portions of each of the different ingrediants. I'm not sure how 'nutritionally balanced' they are either.

Disenchanted3 · 21/05/2010 13:29

I've done a few 'I can cook' one with them but not BCLC!

They are a right pair of knobs aren't they lol. They seem to waste lots of their food too.

Katisha · 21/05/2010 13:30

They are not proper recipes. They are food as entertainment.
Better for children to eat normal food that isn't tarted up to look like a face or a tiger or whatever it is, I reckon.
Like on Junior Masterchef for example.

RGPargy · 21/05/2010 13:31

I can cook ones do actually look very nice!! I keep meaning to grab the recipes for some of the stuff that they do!

Housemum · 21/05/2010 13:33

No. It's just some craft stuff with a bit of food chucked in. Gross

Now, "I Can Cook" is what BCLC should have been - she's equally as annoying at times, but it is real food cooked with/by children, not art with a sausage.

StealthPolarBear · 21/05/2010 13:33

I did once plan to...never got round to it though and can't remember what it was
Agree most are stupid/sound disgusting/wasteful though. Especially the one that was half a whole cucumber with three samosas (pre-made) stood up in it to look like a shark or dragon or something.
Just to re-iterate, you didn't make the samosas. You bought them and arranged them in a cucumber

mrsflux · 21/05/2010 13:36

I can cook is way better! I'd defo eat those recipes.

Just hoping ds will never nag me to make a bclc mess!

Oh BCLC is appalling WRT the food, no one would want to eat this crap and it gives kids awful ideas.
ICanCook at least does recipes for proper food and you also see the DC eating it, something that never happpens in BCLC.

angelbabe1982 · 22/05/2010 23:27

BCLC is bloody awful. My DS (2.3) loves helping me in the kitchen and the i can cook stuff is quite good. He can tear, mix and pinch with the best of them - and actually eats the resulting (often poorly presented lol) food. the cbeebies website has the recipes to print. BCLC should be put off air and replaced by slightly less annoying Katy.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 23/05/2010 07:23

, me and dd have actually made pirates treasure. She has such an appaling appetite that I'll do anything to make her eat, including the aforementioned pirates treasure. Truly vomitworthy. Luckily now she is nine, she is much more interested in food, making it but not eating it.
