My DD is 10m now and has only really just started having some half-decent daytime naps.....when she was 5m or 6m I'd struggle to get her to sleep at all during the day (luckily she's always been better at night). I know what it's like, they get so over-tired and you really a break as well. I just got used to it tbh. Spent hours and hours walking round town with her in the pram/pushchair. Sorry, that's not very helpful....!

you really need a break

i got mine into it by going for long pram walks every day at midday. then his body would be expecting to sleep at midday so it was easier to put him in his cot for it.

Is that a normal day?

Try looking for tired signs and trying to get him off then. If he doesn't show tired signs, try doing it by the clock. Between 6 and 18 months lots of babies follow a 2-3-4 hour pattern: first nap is 2 hours after they woke up; second nap is 3 hours after they woke from 1st nap; bedtime is 4 hours after they woke from 2nd nap. Your DS may not go the full 3 / 4 hours for the last two periods as he's a bit younger, but it could be a starting point to try.

thanks for your replies ,he kept on going until 8.45pm , im afraid for a couple of times i left him to kick and scream on his mat so i could have a wee ,feed the others and then at 8.45 i picked him up and he fell asleep before id even sat down !!!! did then sleep through until 6 this morning though ,bless his little cottoney socks !!!

Do you know I constantly cycle in my stress over daytime naps.

My DS (22wks old) will nap for 30 mins (set your watch by him) and wake himself up and be cranky within ten mins. I know he needs longer naps but try telling him! lol

6am up
8am sleep till 8.30
10.30 sleep till 11
and so it goes...

most of these naps involve some fight to get him to settle down despite me doing things the same way everyday.

LUCKILY..... (god help me if this changes) he goes down like a dream for bed at 7.

We are going away soon and I am sooooooooooo anxious that this routine will suffer.

At best, I go with the flow of my gorgeous little boy but... at worst, I get wound up / narkyand wish he would bloody sleep longer so he is less cranky and more playful.

DH seems to think I am a stress head..... easy for him when he goes to work and doesn't have these daily battles!

Thanks for your post.... makes me feel like I'm not the only one!
