Any other mummies out there with chronic pain illnesses?

Tee2072 · 18/05/2010 14:04

and would they like to have a support thread with me?

I have fibromyaglia, arthritis and early degenerative disease so pain is my constant friend.

I also have an 11 month old son.

Anyone else in a similar situation and would like to have thread for support and recommendations for coping strategies?

Hello may I join? I always feel a phony for saying I have troubles and pain but I do suffer alot. I have severe congenital scoliosis which looks as if it is progressive I also have diastematomyelia (split spinal cord) which effects feeling in my arm and the left side of my chest.

Im going in for surgery this Christmas to have spinal fusion and to remove and shorten my ribs.

I have a 3 year old DS and 5month old DD. I struggle to lift them and to walk long distances. We currently live in a top floor flat with 3 flights of stairs so that makes life quite hard. Fixed rate mortgage isnt over until October next year so cant move until then

My dad helps me alot takes the children to the childminder when I work and then gives me a lift into work aswell. Im learning to drive at the moment so hopefully things will get easier and my dad wont have to do so much for me.

Thats it I think!

Tee2072 · 24/05/2010 15:16

amazingbouncingferret why do you feel like a phony? It certain sounds like you have some chronic illnesses!

Good luck with the driving and welcome to the thread.

Hi all,
Have been occupied with work for a few days, plus the Lost finale which has taken up lots of my attention. So popping back in. Morning to you all.

amazingbouncingferret Hi! Why on earth would you think you are a phony? You have plenty on your plate from the sounds of it. I also have trouble with walking long distances - think that is pretty common here - and carrying my DS for very much time - likewise a lot of us have that.

Hopefully the driving will work out. I found it was tricky to start with and then just clicked after a while.

I'm working at home today but will be trying to go swimming at lunchtime, like I did last week. How is everyone else?

Hi Everyone.

I'm not too bad. Adam, my son, on the other hand, has Chicken Pox. So much for taking any long walks or getting a full nights sleep this week. At least he's young enough that he won't remember and we're getting them out of the way!

Not much else going on. Gearing up for my mother to be here for Adam's first birthday, so guess I'd better get back to cleaning while he's napping!

Tee oh your poor DS, hope he gets better soon. It's hard work when they're ill. Hope you manage to look after yourself a bit too.

amazingferret no way are you a phoney, I really can't believe you even think that. I think I'd struggle with two kids under 3 in a top floor flat without any health problems, so sounds like you're do amazingly well. Good luck with the driving.

eightieschick you've inspired me to start up some exercise too, I'm sure it will help so ta

Although I have to say my symptoms have been very mild in the last few days, so am feeling very lucky at the moment.

Freezingmyarseoff · 26/05/2010 14:54

oh bosoms I meant to say I feel for you with your dilemma about breast feeding. It's such a difficult decision isn't it? I remember when I was breastfeeding DD, I was told I should only expect to breastfeed for about 6 weeks before I would need to stop and take methotrexate. I used to frequently burst into tears at the thought of stopping. I managed to BF for 6 months as it turned out, so am seriously impressed you've got to 8 months and with twins too!

You have to do what feels right for you, but I always said to myself any day after 6 weeks of BF was a bonus. Good luck with whatever you decide, but remember it's also important that your boys have a healthy mum. You've already given them a brilliant start.

Just popping in to say I'm still around! Just dealing with my own pain issues, an upset tummy and, of course, POX BOY!

I hope everyone is well.

Welcome to the thread herbietea.

Well, poxy boy is better and I am leaving him with his daddy and going off to do some coffee drinking and some shopping where there are no cranky poxy boys!

I hope everyone is well.

Hello, just saw this thread - room for one more? I have fibromyalgia and joint hypermobility - also just been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency and have been slightly less plagued by pain since starting massive doses of Vitamin D (about 1000% of the RDA - I was severly deficient apparently). I have an 18 month old DS - his name is Dex and I live with my long suffering DH and my BIL...they're pretty great at looking out for me and/or dex when I'm not doing so well. My mum and dad live a couple of doors away as well - my mum comes over every afternoon to help with Dex - I am really lucky, God knows where I would be without everyone helping me! We are TTC number 2 (fingers crossed it happens soon) so I am gearing up for pregnancy, as I get severe SPD (still get a lot of pain) - it'll be worth it though! Anyways, hope everyone is feeling good today!

Tee2072 · 01/06/2010 10:59

Welcome lefroglet! I am impressed that you're going to have another and very jealous that you mum lives so close!

The big news around here is the suddenly standing baby!

Hi all - hope it has been a good Bank Hol weekend.

Tee Glad your poxy boy is better and that you were able to get out for some me time. (you time?) Cool that he is standing too!

lefroglet Hi! Good luck on the ttc. Friends of ours told us they're having their 2nd (we were in ante natal group together) so DH and I had a tiny broody moment yesterday. Will leave it to stew for a bit probably...

herbie Hi! Can understand the spending time in bed. I have felt the same during bad spells.

freezing Glad I have inspired you!

I went swimming twice last week and did have a spell the day after one visit when I was walking without pain for a while. I am hoping the swimming will help with this. Going to aim to go at least once again this week - maybe twice if I can do it.

DS is back in nursery today so I should get cracking as I have work and house tasks to do. Hope everyone's having a good day.

Freezingmyarseoff · 01/06/2010 22:00

Just checking in

Tee congrats to your DS, it's very exciting when they do something new.

legfroglet welcome, we're also thinking TTC too. Good luck and glad you're getting lots of help

will try swimming this week, think it will be better than the class I did last week. there were lots of yoga positions and my wrists couldn't take it.

didn't have a great day today, feet were very stiff (still are, 14 hours later), so I decided to have a little nap - 30 minutes turned out to be 4 hours so I guess I must have needed it.

Tee2072 · 02/06/2010 15:23

Afternoon all.

Well, we've been released from quarantine and took a very long walk today. Lovely day here in Belfast.

Definitely think you needed it freezing. I wish I could nap. Well, my mum arrives Friday for just over a week, so I am hoping to get lots of rest while she's here! For me its my hands that are really bad lately.

Hello all

Mum is here so won't be around much. I hope everyone is doing well. Not feeling to badly myself.

EightiesChick · 08/06/2010 23:08

Hi everyone - just checking in.

Tee Hope you have a good time with your mum and get some rest in. Mine visited last week and enjoyed seeing DS very much. Are your hands still bad?

I got 2 swims in last week. Haven't gone yet this week but will try tomorrow. More family are visiting next week so working on getting the house ready.

My back pain's had some better days - forwhich I'm very grateful - and some the same as usual. I really must make a chiropractor appointment this week. It may not help but I at least ought to try.

Tee2072 · 09/06/2010 08:14

Mornin'.

Ugh. A's stopped sleeping through on some nights. Last night was one such night. Bleurgh.

eighties my hands are a bit better. Now its my bad leg!!! It never ends, does it?

Glad you back is some better some days.

How is everyone else?

OP posts:
Freezingmyarseoff · 09/06/2010 14:02

Hi
I feel for you Tee after a difficult night. Is your mum still visiting? Can you just hand your DS over and go and sleep. I felt so much better for a nap. Have just put DD down so might go and have a sneaky nap myself too.

My knee seems to have swollen up in the last few days, although feet and wrists are behaving a bit better.

well done eighties on getting the swims in. I will try and get some swimming in too - please keep reminding me by your good example

Tee2072 · 09/06/2010 14:34

My mum went to London for a couple of days, freezing. She'll be back tomorrow and I will be taking a nap!!

Hello
I have chronic pain.
I've been to pain clinics etc BUT they know very little about chronic pain & pregnancy & dont offer any specific support. I'd be very up for getting involved in a support thread with you. I'm TTC so could do with your experience.
Take care - hope to hear from you x
