Hi all.

My ds2 is 15 months and I'm finding the whole nap during the day thing a bit tricky... he sleeps really well at night - 7.30 til 6.30 usually but it's a different story during the day. Some days he seem to need an am and pm nap totalling up to 3 hours and other times he doesn't seem tired in the morning or he gets overtired and then it takes me 30-40 minutes to get him to sleep at night.

I am recovering from PND at the moment and so am proobably a little over-anxious about it but am returning to work soon and want to know 'where I am' in the 2 days I am at home with him iyswim.

He goes to nursery two days a week and has no set routine for sleep there but usually has between 45 mins and 1.25 hours, though it can be longer.

Does your little un have a nap at the same time every day?

Do you have cues for naptime as we are told to have for bedtime? (I think he sleeps better at night time as he knows it's coming - bath, story, milk, dark room etc). I'd really appreciate the mn wisdom on this please x

My ds didn't really have a daytime nap at home. When he was very little, he'd fall asleep on me during/after feeding, but from about 6 months (ish), he would only fall asleep during the day if we were out, and this was never at a set-time each day. Sometimes he'd fall asleep in his buggy, or in his carseat (cue me driving the long way home/parked outside my house just so that he could get a nap). We tried putting him to bed during the day for a nap (closing the curtains, etc.) but it never worked. He started nursery for a couple of days a week at a year old, and has always slept really well there (at least an hour after lunch), but never at home.

He has generally been a pretty good sleeper at night (sometimes problems with waking too early in my opinion), but generally sleeping through from 7 to 5.30. We thought that he was managing without a daytime nap, and as he was sleeping well at night, we didn't worry too much about it

Thanks for that - I'm trying so hard not to compare him to friends' babies but it's nice to hear that there are others out there who don't stick to a rigid nap routine. Thanks for posting.

Does he seem like he needs a nap (gets grouchy for eg)? If not I wouldn't worry too much.
