Hi all,

I'm fairly new here-have been reading a lot but not posted much.

I am looking for any tips or tricks for helping my wee girl get ready for a house move-it's all going along nicely and we have about 6-8 weeks til the big day. We have taken her to see the house and she loved it, when asked she also said she would like it if it was her new house. Were going again next week to have a look at the preschool and the house again. Were not moving her nursery or anything yet and were only moving to other side of town so were not leaving any freinds behind. I'm not really concerned that it will be too much of a problem but I would appreciate any tips both on the practical and emotional side.
Thanks in advance xx

You can get some books on moving house from the library

don't forget to pack her fav toys, duvet cover etc separetly so you can make up her bed as soon as you get in

Good luck!

We moved when ds was that age. We had visited the new house with him a couple of times but were wary of the whole thing falling through, so didn't mention that this was THE house. When it was all finalised, then we started talking more about moving to the big house, and how all his toys would come along too, but there would be a bigger garden and more space for him to play. He was quite excited the day before the move, because he came back from nursery to discover most of the furniture from the house had been removed (except from his room - our wonderful movers left as much of that as possible until the last minute, so he wouldn't have a problem getting to sleep. They removed the clothes from his wardrobe, but left the wardrobe in place so it looked the same!). He had lots of fun playing with the large roll of moving wrap left over. He was at nursery during the move itself, then stayed at his grandparents overnight. That meant that when he came back the next day, we had got his new bedroom all set up with his familiar furniture, with the same duvet cover on his bed, his old curtains up at the window, and his pictures on his walls. He settled in really easily, and now when we've been out for a walk and we're coming back to the new house, when he first sees it around the corner, he shouts out 'there's my house, I love my house'. He saw it as an adventure (loved exploring the cupboards, if it all goes quite you could generally find him under the stairs!)

They're pretty resiliant, and as long as you are there, that's pretty much all they are bothered about. We did get a moving house book for a couple of pounds, but he wasn't that bothered about the book.
