What do you do with your 4 month old?

DD just coming up to 4 months.

During the day she eats, sleeps, goes on her play mat for a while, goes on her tummy and rolls over, I sing to her, cuddle her, we go out for a walk etc...

I don't feel like I am doing enough to stimulate her. What games do you play with your babies? What kind of things do you do? I worry she's a bit bored.

All they need is to be close to you. That is enough stimunation. Stop worrying. You are doing a great job. There is such a thing as over-stimulation you know!

Let's see - she does 4 school runs a day. She watches me unload and load the dishwasher and go on mumsnet do impotant work on the computer. I drink coffee, a lot. She waits for her big sisters to swim and do ballet
Sounds like you are doing just fine - they don't find day to day life boring.

I cuddled her lots, breastfed her lots, walked around the house wearing her in a sling, took her out in the pram for a daily walk with the dog. Erm, that's about it I think. Maybe some peekaboo while she was on the baby gym too.
I think that mostly all they need is cuddles, singing, talking and eye contact with you.

Save your stimulating-children energy for the months and years to come when it's actually needed, and enjoy sitting down while your dd is immobile.

My DD is just 3 months.

She lies under her gym or mobile for a bit , does some 'tummy time', she watches me unload the washing machine/hang out the washing/hoover etc, she strokes the dogs (when they can be persuaded to come near enough!). She watches me play the piano and sometimes sits on my lap and bashes the keys for a bit. I sing to her and play a few bouncing-type games. We go for a walk with the dogs. i read her the odd book. Sometimes we might have a baby group type thing to go to.

Most of the stuff I do is as much to keep myself entertained and not go crazy as it is to 'stimulate' her. but I do think, like you, that she is bored sometimes. It must be dull not being mobile.

Sounds like you are doing fine to me. You might want to get out and make some more friends though. It doesn't have to cost a fortune, you could go to the local Playgroup, most NCT branches have a group that meet weekly. There is also Aquatots at some local swimming pools and check your local library to see if they do music or storytelling sessions.
