Toddler puking - immediate tips needed!

Hi there

My DS aged 2 has just been sick twice. Don't think he's really poorly as is watching Peppa quite happily in between vomming incidents.

But he's covered all his bedsheets and one set of PJs in first incident, and now 2nd set of PJs, sofa and my clothes in second.

What I need is tips in case he's sick again. What should I dress him in? How can I protect the bed clothes (I'm going to run out of sheets if he pukes again).

Any of your best vomiting toddler tips or advice most welcome.

put him in an old tshirt of yours and sellotape or duck tape some bin bags together to cover the bed cover. Put a wash basin near him to catch the puke. Good luck.

Pampers and Huggies do bedmats which we use when DS1 is ill. They are sold in supermarkets so could send someone out for some now.
I would dress him in anything that is easy to wash - in my opinion it doesn't need to be PJs at this stage! We even used to use a waterproof painting apron over clothes when we were about to run out of grow bags!!
We also keep old spare bath towels and drape the floor/ourselves etc.. in them!
Try a bucket - DS1 was ill at 20months and we managed to use it then.

Poor baby.
I usually put a towel down on the bed and one under the bucket ont he floor.

That way only a little bit of washing rather than whole sets of sheets.

Have fun!

Dioralyte.

Please.

My friend's 2 year old was admitted to hospital last night as she became so dehydrated through D&V (and only a very few episodes) that she collapsed and fell, banging her head badly in the process.

So please keep him hydrated, even if you think he is drinking enough- he needs more!

Thanks so much, everyone. Realy helpful. I'm going for old t-shirt/bin bag/ bucket combo now. It's going to be a long night.

bin bags sound awful imo, i make up the bed with a towel and sheet and then another towel and sheet on top, so that a fresh bed is sitting there for them when they get back into bed.

I wouldn't put him in his own bed. I keep puking ones in bed with me so I can keep an eye. Cover the sheet & duvet in towels and be ready with a bowl and a flannel.

meanuanadognamedboo · 05/05/2010 22:34

but sick can go through towels as i found out with baby with projectile vomiting....i think the bin bags are a good idea

Aitch · 05/05/2010 22:36

only if you have veeery cheap towels...

sheet and towel, i'm saying. not just towel. two layers. one for grot, the next for absorbency.

BrightonMama · 06/05/2010 09:36

Just to say thanks again for your toddler puking tips. They certainly came in handy last night - we've now had 12 hours of it.

Didn't go for the bin bags in the end, just the bowl and lots and lots of towels.
