What is the weirdest make-do dinner you have dished up?

The cupboard is bare. The fridge contains remnants of mouldy veg. What are some of the yukkiest last minute dinners you have served to the kids?

My sister gave my DD mash, sweetcorn and mushy peas the other day. She really enjoyed it

I never dished it up since (unsurprisingly) he declined it, but one desperate night having peered into a very empty cupboard, I offered my DH a corned beef omlette, heheh. Luckily for her my DD was still BF and not weaned at the time so was safe

Stuffing. On its own.

^^^ Stuffing on its own. I am still laughing at this. Class. Actually I could eat stuffing on its own - lovely.

Shortninbread · 01/05/2010 23:20

Me too. Yum. Corned beef omelette also sounds delish.

Last week my dh made a thai green curry with roast leftovers in it, as well as a jar of olives that was about to go off. So it had chicken, bacon, peas, carrots, olives, gravy and coconut milk in it as well as curry paste. It was utterly revolting.

My Aunty used to give us pot noodle and chips she would mix the pot noodle and then put it on a plate with the chips

(i used to like it too )

cyteen · 02/05/2010 14:39

Bleurgh kitkats that is so wrong. Puts my DP's best worst dinner (8 frozen yorkshires with broccoli, swimming in Bisto) quite in the shade.

pasta with tomato sauce (heinz) is one of my standbys with the dcs. They love it. Occasionally I add peas if I am being healthy.

When I was a student, my friend cooked us 'chow mein' consisting of 10p super noodles, ketchup and mushrooms with hot water.

There wasn't enough to go around, so he thoughtfully padded it out. With cornflakes.

PMSL!! Ah haa, I love this thread cheering me up on this miserable day. Come to think of it, we haven't got much in, how does that green curry go again....? Urrggh!

Lovethesea · 02/05/2010 20:52

Mind you - I cooked DD (17 months) jacket potato, cheese, baby sweetcorn, and courgette tonight - she ate a tiny bit but then stopped. I offered a yoghurt, she ate some then stopped. Then she started dipping the baby sweetcorn and cheese into the yoghurt ... and ate lots.

So maybe the occasional odd combination is just what's needed to excite the palate!

Shortninbread · 06/05/2010 21:27

Indeed. Stir fried noodles squished between sweet fairy bread was a hit combination by children at a birthday party we went to.
