Hello mumsnet!

This is the first time i've done this so i hope i'm doing it right! my 10 week old is doing really well and starting to only wake up once now for a feed which is brilliant, but i'm still swaddling him because otherwise he keeps on waking himself up with his arms, i just wondered if anyone else has this problem? i'm considering buying one of those special swaddling blankets, at the moment i'm just using a sheet. Also, i don't think he wants to be swaddled any more, but otherwise he doesn't sleep properly, he's still in his moses basket, but soon to be transfered to a cot in his own room as he's too big really for it now - any tips or ideas would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Do you mean that he does that fluttering thing with his arms where they throw it up like they're having a nightmare then wake themselves with the shock? If so, completely normal

I think you can still swaddle him at 10 weeks, but my memory is getting very rusty! Hope someone comes with some better advice.

Putting him in his cot should help alot. I imagine he's bashing his arms on the side of the basket now. Have you bought some sleeping bags for him to go in in his cot? No need to keep swaddling. He should enjoy the space in the cot. I would put him in his cot for his day time sleeps first. Just to get him used to being in that room.

Thanks for that, somebody else had said that about his arms touching the sides, so i'm hoping when he's in his cot it should help, because other than that the nights would be ok!

cheers x x

Agree with others, hugely irritating wqhen they do it just as you are sitting down to chill but completely normal.
I would keep swaddling and agree with moving him into a cot as soon as you can to see if that helps.

our DS needed to be swaddled until he was 4months old so don't worry about it being for too long, if that's what helps him sleep, continue it

My 12 week old is still being swaddled at night time otherwise she would wake herself up all night long. I did worry that we should not still be doing it but she just claws at her face and that makes her upset. I've got one of the swaddling blankets and I keep her legs free and just swaddle her arms.

I am going to put her in her cot for daytime sleeps though. Hadn't thought of doing that before.

We use a Miracle Blanket here which has been wonderful, although now at 16 weeks, DS (a big boy) occasionally escapes. Alternatives are also a Woombie here or a Peke Moe here.

I've heard of people swaddling up to 12 months old. If the baby likes it, I'd stick with it. Normally the only way DS will go to sleep if he wakes up at night is me feeding him back to sleep. The only exception is if he wakes up because his arms have come out of the swaddle blanket - as soon as I wrap him back up, he closes his eyes and drops straight off!

I thought I was the only person my little boy is 13 weeks old and I swaddle him otherwise he wouldnt sleep. I'm just worried about when to know when to stop swaddling xx
