Littlelife toddler reins

Decided I need to get DD reins for her safety and my peace of mind. But trying to decide whether to go for plain reins or the fancy ones with rucksacks, hoods etc. attached. Does anyone have one of the fancy ones? Can the straps be tucked/zipped away when not in use so it can act just as a backpack? Are thay any good? Advice pease! Tia.

Yes the reins can be tucked away when not in use. They are very good. Never thought that I would get my wriggly 19 month old (who hates to be mucked about) to wear one, but he loves it.He asks for his bag sometimes!

DD has a ladybird and she is a little sod wriggly. She has always been fine wearing it and at 2.3 she is now just starting to object to the strap. Loves the rucksack still though. It's got a little rain hood inside as well!

DD has got a backpack one. You can unclip the strap, or you can zip it inside the bag, and I have found the bag useful for things like train journeys etc as DD can carry her own toys with her (she loves having her own bag).
I have reigns too - I used to use them to secure her in highchairs in cafes and things like that. I prefer the backpack when we are out walking as DD likes it and so is less likely to make a fuss about wearing it, and the strap is much longer than with reigns so she can have a bit more freedom.

However I would say that the flip side is that you have slightly less control with the backpack. With reigns, if they trip over then you are able to hold the reigns up and stop them falling, but you can't do that if you are holding the strap of the backpack, it's a bit too long. The backpack does have a handle on the top though, which gives you more control - I hold on to that when crossing roads, for example.

I want to get some toddler reins - where can I get them from? Haven't seen them in any catalogues.

chuckeyegg · 29/04/2010 18:54

You can get reins in boots or mothercare.

I've just got DS the littlelife rucksack as he is 3.6 but he has ASD and can run off. So the rucksack probably will last longer here is the best price I found.

my just turned two year old has the little life rucksack, it is fanstastic, she loves it, i love it and it keeps her nice and safe and makes her feel more grown up then reigns might IMO. Sometimes i wind /tug the lead up a bit in my hand so the lead isn't quite so long so if she falls she doesn't go flat on her face! Thats just my preference though if the ground is a bit un-even. it is easy to hold if you are pushing a pushchair aswell. I also used the same rucksac with my older girl for a good two years. they are extrememly well made and well worth the £13 or so quid they cost. oh, i also used it on the 4.5 year old when i went to london for the day and was worried about being separated for her and it still fitted her perfectly b/c of the adjustable straps.
Can you tell i love the littlelife rucksack?! can't recommend it highly enough.

poppyboo · 29/04/2010 19:30

oh yes, and the lead on the littlelife can be unclipped if you want to remove it. the clip is a very strong piece of metal.

mad4mainecoons · 29/04/2010 19:49

another vote for the littlelife rucksack here.

my DS willingly put on on when there was NO WAY he would wear reins he has just grown out of it at 3.5.

and another bonus, mine has a little handle on the back which, if you are quick you can use to grab and save them from tripping (better than their collar ) and i have on occasion used it to catch hold of him when i have the rein unlipped and he tries to run off.

or come to think of it - i have lifted him up a step with it on occasion

brilliant bit of kit

FacePalm · 29/04/2010 21:00

I thought of this topic thread in town this morning when my LO was having a tantrum because she DIDN'T WANT to take of her little life rucksack and sat back in her pushchair hugging it b/c she likes it so much!

mrsflux · 30/04/2010 13:11

We have a goldbug monkey. Very sweet! Ds thinks it's a cuddly tho! He seems to like it as reins too. He's 1 and walking more each day but unlikely to run off. Thought we'd make reins normal early on tho.

I would have bought a little life one but we were given the monkey.

Nit sure how long monkey will last - he's prob no good fir wet days!

Or you could just hold her hand?

Pinkmarshmallow · 04/05/2010 14:37

seeker, that'd be cheaper for sure, but I'd get a sore back stooping down to do that for any length of time. Safer in reins IMO.

Well, my ds is loving his, he has been wearing it around the house constantly.

Seeker...I do also hold his hand (I am short, but dh struggles to hold ds hand as dh is over 6ft), but nothing wrong with that little extra security! And since I have a 10 month old if I have gone out and taken the buggy, it is not always easy to push the puschair with one hand!

What does it really matter...Ds is loving his little backpack! He seems very proud of himself with it on.
