They are real nice if you like olde worlde soft focus sepia stuff. It is just that I feel guilty as it is such a big purchase for an unemployed student mother!! I got two A4 sizes and one a bit bigger. I also varying smaller sizes of five different poses 10 in total. Need to hear of similar frivilousness from other parents.

Dh is a photographer and does the natural, relaxed type of portraits. He spends a whole morning at a client's house getting to know his 'subjects'. The resulting pics are stunning -almost like Boden-style fashion shoots.

We've got some beautiful ones of our kids which we'll have forever - worth it IMO.

dyzzidi · 01/08/2005 12:57

Calicopie Where abouts are you???

Is you DH for hire???

CalicoPie · 01/08/2005 18:55

Hi Dyzzidi

We're based in Leeds but he works all over the North so wouldn't have a problem going to Manchester for a shoot - he has before.

I'm not sure he'll be able to do a shoot and produce a framed portrait for £150, though - he uses top quality framers who aren't cheap! I'd be happy to send you a brochure and price list though if you cat me your address.

Oh dear DP doesn't like the portraits. I framed them nicely and put them up and he can't look at them! Well I'll just give them to my mum and dad and gran and aunts, they may appreciate them. I'll keep some small ones for the album. they aren't really my taste either but the model is adorable.

another vote for ventur portraits. i have fnatastic ones of the kids and like twinset am despeartley trying to lose weight so that i can be in the next ones and be proud to have them on the wall. but they are v expensive. i love the ones from cahrlotte and might email and see if she vsits as far out as Reading as i would love some nice balck and whites of the kids.

skerriesmum · 01/08/2005 21:22

I'm interested in this because I got some shots done recently and I really hate the manipulative techniques by these fancy studios. They lure you in by giving you one free photo, and then their normal prices are beyond ridiculous. They promote them as "artwork", no option to buy any unframed. If I had 1000 euro I'd buy a painting not an arty pose of my own child! I spent almost 400 euro on just two 8x10s, one in a slightly nicer frame. Rip-off Ireland, someone must think this is OK or they'd go out of business!

Well yes Kama, so do I but it was a mistake, I was lured in with a free photo and it was the crap one of the lot. The others were better and i couldn't bear the thought of me leaving without some!! Stoopid but common I believe. I took some nice digital ones of DD and black and whited them and they look great. Anyway the professional ones will make good pressies (keep telling yourself that Amai!)

Hi again,
In response to TwinSetAndPearls, my website is: www.informalportraits.co.uk - please do have a browse and let me know what you think. To vickiyumyum - I would definitely be able to get to Reading as I'm in Ealing and that's not too far at all.
I promise you there's no hard sell on enlargements and I don't force frames onto anyone....as some studios do! Jimjams recently booked me and she's put an endorsement on the 'small business ads' section if you're interested.
Best wishes, Charlotte

TwinSetAndPearls · 01/08/2005 22:45

they are lovely pictures and very reasonable, unfortunately we are too far away. WE used to live in ealing as well! Never mind.

highlander · 01/08/2005 23:06

nah, waste of money, especially when you're as unphotogenic as the Highlander family

I've got a great little collection of digital pics that are in black and white. They look very arty, especially the ones that are naturally lit.

misdee · 01/08/2005 23:08

charlotte, this may seem like a stange request but would you be able to do some pics whilst dh is in a hospital room? how much room do you need?

Charlotte9 · 02/08/2005 10:02

Never mind TwinSetAndPearls, but thanks for your interest (I do travel a certain distance - if you did want to discuss feel free to e-mail me through the address on the site). Misdee - that would be no problem at all, as per our e-mail correspondence. Thanks, Charlotte

homemama · 02/08/2005 16:24

Charlotte, would you be able to get to hartley wintney (near fleet) or would we need to come into town?
Your pics are beautiful BTW, just what we're looking for.

Charlotte9 · 02/08/2005 16:57

Hi homemama - thanks for your comments on my pictures. I would need to charge a little extra to cover travel expenses (I travel by train) so, if you'd still like to book, perhaps you could e-mail your nearest train station to [email protected] and we can take it from there. Thanks, Charlotte

homemama · 02/08/2005 20:19

Thank you Charlotte.
We're moving at the end of the month so I'll def. email you early sept.
Thanks

Charlotte9 · 02/08/2005 20:59

Great, I look forward to hearing from you

kbaby · 04/08/2005 21:48

I love looking at pictures and when DD was born we had a company called Hayden to the house. We ended up buying the disk with all the pics on( you can tell we still had the first time parent glow) they cost 400. Even though it seemed a lot I still like looking at them and will probably do the same with LO2
