Going away with cloth nappies, what do you do?

DD is nearly 6 months and is mostly in terries now, with the occasional shaped 2-parter. I have been using cloth since she was 3 weeks and love it, but have reluctantly had to revert to horrid disposables when going away. Does anyone carry on using cloth when going to visit parents/friends in other bits of the coountry, or is it just too tricky? Would really like to never buy disposables again!!

Depends. If going abroad I use disposables, because I don't want to lug the volume of the nappies around. If visiting grandparents for a weekend (UK) quite often I take cloth, and always for night time, but generally use about half/half. If a long day trip I would probably put a disposable on to leave the house, take a couple of disposables and one cloth with me, so I can return with DS in the cloth nappy but don't have to carry dirty nappies around.

If I was away one night, I would still use cloth. Any longer, I would take disposables as it's just not practical. Do hate buying them though.

Use either a big zip up wet bag for the used ones, or a small bucket with well fitting lid (assuming travelling by car and can lug it all about)

1 night = cloth and a dry bag
Longer = bamboo disposables

I took my cloth abroad last year whilst we toured France in our tent for 3 weeks, I only take cloth on trips over a week if there are laundry facilities or if my mum takes her camping twin tub. I always take my nappies on visits to friends and family, they would be shocked if we didn't, I have to pack for 4 children so a bag of cloth nappies makes no difference really.

Thanks all, think i am going to try cloth on next trip and see how we do!

I got some new flip nappies which have disposable inserts for our holidays. Not tried them yet as have not been on holiday but they look good!

Mammamia2, do report back when you've had a go with these, as it sounds like a great idea! Thanks!

I've always travelled with the same old cloths! We don't go anywhere without a washing machine for longer than 3 days

ahedgehogis · 29/04/2010 19:23

have 2 in cloth and am having a similar dilemma for this summer.
but when going to parents take cloth and mum is happy to wash
am going camping for weekend and will take as is 20 mins from home if I have to go and wash, but have a week long scout camp so will have to go disposable and also am going to a festival so will have to use disposables there as I don't think a bucket will fit in the car!!

The flips are a good option or if you can just take your terries with you - I use an extra large zip closing monkeyfoot bag for mine as can wash with the nappies. Can be used for other stuff like swimming etc too - I have a few for the beach this summer. There are lots of stockists - google them.

FessaEst · 30/04/2010 07:58

Thanks Octo, am already a monkey foot bag convert!

How do the flips work then, washable outer, disposable inner? Does anyone know if the prices currently quoted on cheeks & cherries is with the discount or without?

Thanks for all the replies
