Bum Genius v3 - skinny-legged newborn?

I failed to use washable nappies with ds for more than a couple of months part time - partly because of the extremely runny bf poo going everywhere and also because the fit never seemed right (used bamboozles with motherease wraps). He's always been v. skinny-legged. I'm now about to have dc2 and would really like not to be racked with guilt about filling up landfill sites.
My question is, are the Bum Genius v3's really all they're cracked up to be? Would they be suitable for a small, skinny new born (likely to be under 7 lb) or would I need to wait a few months? Are they really bulky around small babie's waists?

Please convince me!

Not that bulky, I used them from about 10lb for both DCs I suppose, my babies were on the smaller side and despite being fairly die hard cloth fan I use disposables for the first few weeks as had CS and had enough washing already. I did find that skinny gaping leg holes plus runny BF poo meant some leaks though and found 2 parters easier for that reason.

Still use a mix of bumgenius and 2 parters now. I don't think V3 is massively different to the earlier ones but they are easier to stuff and more leak proof at the waist.

Do find them a bit prone to wicking at the legs though. But DH really likes them, still hasn't got the hang of fastening the velcro tabs back before washing them though.

I would wait til a bit bigger or get some smaller ones in for the few few months - the Nappy Garden has a specialist newborn section - and there are real nappy week offers on

They do say from 7lb and whilst this does seem ok for some some particularly scrawny ones fit better from 9lb which is generally i find about time you get your life back in order slightly . Perhaps just dont rush out an dbuy a gazillion of them. Newborns dont move much so leakage is about as prone as in normal sposies.

Bumgenius V3 are brilliant nappies for babies over id say 9lbs im due this week with DC3 and ive bought extra muslins and some nippas to use in the first few weeks then il swap to the V3 when shes put a bit of weight on even though my babies have all been almost 9lbs so far, just to ensure ive got a better fit and dont have to use disposables.

ooo peachy you just made me all . I had a flashback of a little peachy squidgey bum . Good luck

Thanks. I think I'll get a handful of the BG v3 to try but might wait until the baby has chunked out a little bit. I am quite tempted to buy a boat-load on offer this week though!

My DS was 7lb4 at birth and his BG were too big for him. His legs were too skiny for the nappy to fit. I was using disposables until he was 5 or 6 weeks old when i switched to the BG
The nappies are not too bulky as he fits into his clothes with no problem.

i used xs BG AIOs for the first few weeks then bamboo pop ins, Got mine for a good price on ebay, they have leg gussets so keep in even the runniest of BF poopslosions! I've never had a leak and use them day and night for DD who is 5 months.

BG V3s are good tho but best from 9-10lbs.

wrigglerstea · 06/05/2010 23:25

I've used BG V3s since 8lb (about 4 weeks old or so) and never had any problems with leakage, in fact leaked more with disposables at that size.

Have use Bumgenius on DS from 4 days old. was 6lb 1oz at birth and had very few problems, just need to make sure are put on carefully and snug. he has skinny legs also.

megonthemoon · 27/05/2010 09:14

My DS was 9lb at birth. BG's fine from then on. My DS was relatively long and skinny as a baby though, so may be fine on a more compact 8lber IYSWIM. Always had more leakage issues with disposables with DS because of skinny legs - find BGs easier to get a snug fit around the leg as you can pull the velcro tighter than the tabs on a disposable somehow.
