Do you know what I mean? Just bought a dress for DD (14 weeks) to wear at a wedding and it comes with matching frilly pants.

What the heck am I supposed to do with them? I am planning on putting tights on her - do I put them over the tights, a la Superman? Or do the tights replace need for said frilly knickers?

I'm rather new at this whole mum business and I am not good at girly stuff!!

If the knickers are really pretty I put them on over tights.
Ifthey are plain I put them in a drawer until she is tightless and they can go over a nappy

I think tights replace the need for the knickers, although the other day I did put the knickers on top of DDs tights and it didn't look too bad

Righty-o. Will experiment with the Superman look and see how it goes. Thanks very much!

I only ever used them to cover up nappies, didnt' usully bother with them with tights,

Gap still sell them with 5yo skirts...I got a pair with a dress I bought for DD yesterday.

/crash/ I'm also new to this dressing girls thing. Do tights go under or over a vest? /crash/

Psammead · 23/04/2010 19:25

I always have put them over so far.... gosh. I wish things would come with instructions!

With the knickers I put them on over the tights if they are nice frilly ones. With the vest under or over tights it depends, under a dress I would go tights over vest but under trousers I went vest over tights as I didnt want the top of the tights sticking out above the trousers.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 23/04/2010 20:08

OK that sounds like a sensible solution. ALthough I like the idea of an instruction manual. Would it also tell me where to find the sleep button which I seem to have misplaced?

Alouiseg · 23/04/2010 20:10

Awww! I havn't got girls, this is a revelation. I wish that when i bought a dress they came with a matching pair of knicks.

QuintessentialShadow · 23/04/2010 20:10

just popped in to say: I have two boys, and luckily they are easy to dress, I never had such headaches!

If the weather is warm enough, strongly advise knickers but no tights to the wedding. Wrestling small child into tights is far too much like hard work.(shudders at memory)

schroeder · 23/04/2010 20:42

Haha. My dd had a gap dress when she was about 4, the first time she wore it was to a christening.
She kept fussing all the way there in the car that she was uncomfortable; really got on my nerves. (you can tell what's coming can't you?)

We get to the church dd fuss fuss me stop fidgeting getting pretty pissed off.
When we get to the christening tea I go with her to the loo and check her dress to see what the problem is and there are these giant matching knickers still attached with those plastic thingies inside her dress

Beveridge · 23/04/2010 22:11

I am a stickler for frilly pants over tights. I started when DD was tiny and prone to explosive nappies as it compressed everything, reducing leaks - so a sort of 'safety pants', if you will.

Now it doesn't look 'finished' if she has a dress and tights on but no pants.Clearly I need to get out a LOT more!

If she is wearing a vest, I would put tights under the vest so the vest can take the role of the pants and the tights can contain any initial explosions.

I've really thought about this far too much .

It's actually quite hard to find frilly pants these days, the other week I was in a 'traditional' baby shop and they had a whole wall of them, all different! I was quite excited and had to be dissuaded from buying far too many...

Psammead · 24/04/2010 10:19

LOL! Beveridge - you're right, you DO need to get out more :P

Just kidding, thanks for the advise.

Schroeder - I sympathise! The only reason I found them was because I was looking for a washing label in the dress. They are sneaky, aren't they? Hiding them to catch people unawares!
