My one week old, laughing???

Am I losing my mind? I swear my 6 day old son just full on laughed in his sleep.
I suspect the smiles he does when I kiss him are actual smiles, but I told myself it's coincidence as he's far too young.
He was overdue to the point of being born with peely skin though if this makes a difference??
I'm so shocked at that laugh, like I've just halloucinated?!

My son giggled in his sleep when he was 2 weeks, it was really odd.

So did my daughter, was told it is wind!

I think that as a mum you know the difference between windy smiles and real smiles.
my ds laughed a few times early on (though not that early!) then didn't for ages - it's as if it didn't really become established until later. I think the dates they tell you are the dates when behaviours become established but maybe they do actually happen randomly earlier sometimes.

He smiled again this morning.
I looked at him and did all that cooey baby talk while smiling, he looked me right in the eye and broke out a big smile, amazing.

It is really weird to see isn't it? I think we have super babies.
I wanna tell everyone but they'll think I'm insane and seeing things

aw!

EarthMotherImNot · 21/04/2010 12:17

I fostered a baby who smiled at two weeks and until someone else actually saw him do this I was putting it down to sleep deprivation.

I asked my HV about this and she told me that babies are born being able to smile, have all the facial muscles etc, they just don't realize they can do it.

Granny23 · 21/04/2010 12:18

It''s the cooey baby talk that is doing it. Stop it immediately. Your son is laughing at you!

SethStarkaddersMum · 21/04/2010 12:18

if he was overdue maybe he's just really really happy to be out!

Mine was definately smiling responsively at about 2 weeks. Love the idea of full on laughing though. He also used to do that crying in his sleep, you know that heart is going to break with the weight of the world sort (but it only lasted a couple of seconds)

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 21/04/2010 15:03

Word of warning, ds could smile and laugh (as in a real laugh) at 2 weeks, he did everything else early aswell and is a very bright boy now. His head wanted him to sit his GCSE maths at 11 so watch out.
