How old is he? We have a very strict carseat rule in our house. DD (19mo) knows that if she takes her arms out I will stop the car and go nowhere until I have her belt back on properly and also the first time she did it I yelled at her - I know it is mean to frighten a 18mo but it is more dangerous to take her straps off - in a very serious voice. When I stopped I undid the buckle and put her back explaining that is was not allowed and if a policeman saw her mummy would get into trouble. She has quite a good level of understanding for her age and has received the message and understood as it never happened again.

As for boredom - can you play spot the coloured car/animal/lorry/digger game or get a few books or toys especially for his carseat only.

I also stop the car and re-strap my boys if they do this, and now we have made a rule that they can take their arms out of the straps, but only when i am parked somewhere. I have explained that it is very dangerous and they could get seriosuly hurt and also mentioned the police.
my eldest 2 are 2 and 3, and they understand the rules.

does it also fasten across the chest? can't imagine my dd wriggling out of hers tbh. agree on zero tolerance approach

My DS did it once. I turned around and drove back home and we didn't go to the park. He's never done it again
