Just been to mums and toddlers with dd 4.5
When my back was turned, another little girl lunged in for a cuddle and knocked dd off balance. Turned round to hear a bump and tears - she'd fallen backwards and hit her head on a wooden parkay floor
She's seems OK at the moment (this happened about an hour ago) and has had something to eat and drink, isn't drowsy or sick etc....but I am panicking - keep thinking about Natasha Redgrave who hit her head while skiing and died and I also know of someone who did what dd has done while out dancing and died the next morning . Please tell me that for each of these poor souls there are lots more who are OK and unscathed after a bang to the head. I'm so scared. Thanks

I should add I've tried to assess how bad the bang was - she said she fell on her bottom first so hopefully it wasn't too hard - but I didn't see it so I don't know

I am sure she will be fine. My LO one fell over once and got a huge 'egg'on their forehead and he was fine. As you've said keep an eye on her being sick or drowsy, and if you are very worred you can wake her a few times during the night.

At 4.5 she will be able to tell you if she feels 'off' in any way.

My then two yr old ran across my mum's flagstone floor, tripped and fell head first against her Aga. We heard an almighty crack and he was screaming and screaming. We rushed him down to A&E and they said, has he been sick or fainted? We said no. All you can do, they said, is monitor him for 24 hours. At night, just wake him up a few times to make sure he's ok. He was totally fine. Please don't panic, I know there is so much scary stuff out there but you must try to not let it get to you. ( I panic too, by the way!!)

Thanks all. It's now a good few hours since the bump and dd has been carrying on as normal - apart from saying she was tired round lunchtime, demanded a blanket and then didn't fall asleep! Have been to Asda and she was bright as a button all the way round the store, so I am feeling a little more relaxed about things, although am still being vigilant. My rational brain was telling me to stay calm, all will probably be OK, but my irrational side takes over and I always think the worst, especially as I know personally of people who have died in this way, nothing puts the wind up me more than when dd bumps her head. Thanks again - so glad unhinged, that your dc was OK - God, I would have been in bits! Motherhood sure is a test of stamina isn't it!!
