11 week old losing dummy during the night

My 11 week old DS loves his dummy, needs it often during the day and to fall asleep. He sleeps through to around 3am and then starts niggling for his dummy which I find in his cot, put back in and he settles back to sleep straight away. It falls out again a little later, I replace it and this happens again many times until 5am when he wants a feed.

It would be great to stop the need for the dummy in the early hours - any ideas??

Buy a dummy with a cherry teat, makes it harder to fall out.

My DS was the same - he loved his dummy and I didn't have a problem with it UNTIL he began to drop it literally every hour past midnight until morning! We were so tired from leaping around having to stick it back in! I think he would have slept much better without it but I was too scared to make him give it up and then one day I just decided enough was enough and went cold turkey - the first night without the dummy (he was about 4 months old) was the best we'd all had since he came along and then a few weeks later he started sleeping through. Made me think we should have dome it sooner! Good luck x

Forgot to say - if you do give up the dummy try to replace it with a special soft toy or little blanket - that's what we did and he still sleeps with his "cow cow" now!

our ds was the same with his dummy. We bought dummy attachments which clip on to his sleep suits, then if he needed his dummy he could always find it. He then had cold after cold (winter time and just started nursery) and got a bacterial infection on his face and dc recommended we get rid of the dummy entirely (at 10months). Strangely, he settled really well without it!

I try to take the dummy out when DS has just fallen asleep so that if he stirs he gets used to not having it in his mouth.

My HV recommended I weaned him off it from 6 months anyway (I guess the need to suck for comfort reduces then maybe?)

tape it to his face JOKE

This is one reason I'm trying to stear clear of dummies.

How about talking it out as soon as he nods off so he gets used to sleeping without it?

My friend had a 6 month old waking at night constantly because of the dummy falling out, sounded like a nightmare
