My DS is 17 weeks and screaming (not crying just vocal) and always got his hands in his mouth...I put calgel on and he bites on my finger and has started waking in the night.

He is producing lots of saliva and occasionally chews the teat.

I know teething is meant to be hellish for both baby and parents.... is this the start of teething or should I be going docs?

Scared I won't be able to cope with him .... how long does each 'bout' last until teeth come through?

Sorry if I am asking the same old questions here just after some advice.

Thanks

Some babies are born with teeth, some get the first at 1 month, 2 month etc, the average being 6 months, but some not until 14, 15 months or more.

Each baby is different. My dd started chewing her fists, drooling, crying, red cheeks etc at around 5 months. Continued on and off until the tooth finally broke through at 12 months. It was hard work.

Do 4 month olds scream cos they are finding their voice?

No, 4 months is not too young. My dc had a nightmare with teething as well. Some people on this sight recommend Ashton & Parsons teething powders or teething gels. I think they are definitely worth a try I never found either or them any help, tbh. I used to give Calpol or baby Nurofen as that was the only thing that gave either of us any relief!

I'm not sure about 4 month olds screaming to find their voice. I can only comment on my own dc & she only screamed when something was wrong e.g. teething!

HTH!

My 4 month old cut his first tooth at 10 weeks. Couldn't believe it. He now has 4. He does shout sometimes just because he can. He seems to find it highly entertaining, noisy little monster. I use Teetha homeopathic teething powders which worked brilliantly with ds1 but don't seem to help ds2. Calpol is the only thing that settles him.

My 4 month old was like this too, I used teething powders to help him, although he was having teething symptoms for a while before the first tooth actually came through.

My 4 month old has also taken to squealing and I'm sure it's just so she can hear what it sounds like. We've just had blowing raspberries which she seemed to think was some kind of communciation and I think she's also realising that these new tricks get our attention - particualrly the squealing and particularly if I've gone into another room for a moment .

We also have the dribble, hands in mouth and red cheeks and I think it's teething too. I spoke to my mum who said it's just the teeth moving down and doesn't mean they're anywhere near the gumline yet - great, thanks for that mum, just what I wanted to hear. Can you imagine months of this?! We have also tried A&P powders and found them OK; they helped a little but were by no means a miracle cure.

Thanks Ladies!

Milo.... my DS is doing everything that your LO is.... I don't know any other 4 month old so it's great to hear he is doing all the right things.... even if it does deafen me!!!

Hope that we cope with the teething blues!
