How often do you change your DCs clothing/underwear?

I have a 2yo ds and a 6mo dd.
I've never really thought about this until now.
I do 2 washes a day, with the kids outfits, pj's, our outfits, work clothes, night clothes.
My dcs wear a change of clothes a day, change of vest a day ( wear it all day and all night, bath/shower in the am and new vest on). My ds usually gets 3 wears out of a coat tops because he is such a messy boy, always climbing or digging.
Anyway, my dc's stayed with their gps, last Saturday onto Sunday, from 6pm till 5pm.
In the bag there was a new vest, a full new outfit (top, trousers, jumper, socks) a set of pj's.
When they come home the next day, my dd was wearing huge boys socks, an age 18-24 vest, no teeshirt, weapped up in her carseat with a throw over, fleece, cover thing.
When i asked what happened to her clothes. mil said i didn't give her enough so she had to ask her next door neighbour for clothes. I only gave her one vest and one pair of socks, which they wore during the night. So mil put her clean vest, teeshirt and socks on with pjs.
My ds had no vest, and the teeshirt he had left wearing, and orange socks that were from the next door neighbour, because he slept in his new teeshirt, socks (along with his pj's).
On asking why, mil told me that it wasn't fair making them wear their clothes over again, and she had to wash their clothes as i hadn't given them enough, and she even had to wrap my dd up because i didn't give her a clean jacket. After she left i emptied their bag, and everything still smelled like washing powder, my ds pj top had something red on the front, but that was it. So what was the fuss about?

Do you all change vests morning and night? Do your dcs wear socks and teeshirts in bed (over sleepysuits). Stuck between thinking she is mental or i'm neglectful.

(dds 1&2) Clean pants/socks/vest every day, also shirt if it's a school day. trousers/skirt/cardi will do most of the week usually. Weekends clean everything daily as they get outside as much as possible!
Clean pj's twice a week. The only one who has clean pj's daily in this house is ds. I have never put them to bed with vest/pants/socks. Does that make me a bad mum????

Wait till they're 13, and change clothes about 3 times a day, and put it all in the laundry basket at the end of the day....and because it's screwed up, it has to be washed !
It's lovely to hear of children still in vests....

How mad, can't believe how often you people change clothes. They are kids with sweet smelling bodies, not adults with all thier swaet and hormones.
To say nothing of the work and energy that goesa into washing, drying, ironing...
With exception of underwear I wash clothes as infrequently as possible. It sves them from wear too.Shower every day thoguh.

Underwear every day, but the rest as they're dirty. Which depends on all sorts of factors really.

But since joining MN I have become well aware that I am a significant slattern...

Your MIL is strange!

When DS goes to my parents' for the weekend he often comes home in the same clothes he went in, two days earlier

DS puts clean underwear and socks on each day, apart form that he changes clothes is something is dirty, and often will carry on wearing something for a few days even if it is dirty.

PJs I think about once a week

overmydeadbody · 09/04/2010 19:02

thank god for moondog and fallenmadonna, I am not the only one who doesn't bother with obsessively clean clothes!

FabIsJustSoBusy · 09/04/2010 19:07

Clean pyjamas every night.
Clean set of clothes every day of every thing and more if needed.
DS1 is currently going through about 3 pairs of pants a day and today 2 sets of tops and bottoms.
DD is very clean and wears the same clothes all day and has new pants and nightwear every night.

My dc are 5 and 8. Clothes get washed when they fail the sniff test (or are visibly extremely dirty). Clean undies every day though unless we're away for a weekend and I forget to pack them which I did last time!

pointydog · 09/04/2010 19:21

those gps of your are mental. Of course there is no need to change clothes every day.

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/04/2010 19:23

My DD (2.7) has clean clothes and vest every day regardless and sometimes has a change during the day if she gets messy. She has clean PJs or nightie every night (although I'm thinking this might not be necessary any longer - if it ever was).

Clothes get washed when dirty which usually means after a week or so

climbershell · 13/11/2023 15:53

23 month old usually wears a vest for 3 days. Tshirt usually lasts 1 day. Jumper depends. Trousers 2-3 days. Sleepsuit/pj's probably 5 days.

For a weekend away I'd have prob packed 1 vest, 2 tshirts, 1 jumper, 1 pair of trousers

6 month old, wears a vest for 2 days, 2 tshirts a day, trousers last 1 day. Rarely in jumpers , but if is then 1 a day. I'd pack 3 vests, 4 tops, 2 trousers, 2 sleepsuits for a weekend.
