OK have just started using bum genius with 5mth old & had her first poo in one today. Liner caught a miniscule amount & the rest is all over the nappy. Was gonna wait till tonight to wash but couldn;t face leaving it so put it straight in the wash with the other wee ones.

Please convinvce me things get better... found it a bit of a mare compared with just throwing the whole thing out (although i obviously do want to limit landfill).

Am also finding them very bulky - my baby doesn't seem to roll much when she's wearing them, am wondering if it's because of added bulk between her legs.

I do want to perservere, just need a bit of reassurance i think

Bumgenius do look a bit bulky on small babies but they do get better as your baby fills out a bit. Also your 5mth olds poos will start getting more solid soon esp when she starts trying solid foods so the liner will hold it a little more. I think its worth it to keep going my DD is 3 in june and we still use bumgenius on a night as i feel these are the best (shes in knickers through day)and i will be using them for new baby when she comes.

Another thing is if you are using paper liners try not to fold them. I found folding them reduces the absorbancy and the poo goes all over. Try using a single layer of paper or even a fleece liner may help. Good luck

Hi
Is this your first experience of cloth or just bumgenius?

If the former, just hang in there, you get used to it. You will get a lot more like to day but it gets easier. I can remember being semi panicked about the poo thing but now I cant imagine using disposables now.

When I had those kind of nappies to deal with i just hosed them down with the showerhead in the loo (I have a long hose)

When DD was still doing squirty type poos before weaning, i just used fleece liners then rinsed them in the loo with shower head. I wouldnt have bothered with paper ones at this stage. It can be grim but I think its worth while. Once poos are solid after they settle down after weaning its a breeze.

Cloth rocks- I now work a 60hr week full time and have DD in cloth and its no hassle at all... (no tumble drier either )

milky poo just do a quick wash cycle (no detergent) in the machine before doing a standard wash cycle, once they have solids then rinse the nappy in the flush of the toilet to get the worst off first then wash as above.

Thanks for advice - felt much better after the wash when i saw how clean it was! it was first cloth nappy but will keep going.

Am still using disposable at night as she sleeps from 11 til 7 (and i normaly don't change her til after her first feed so it's around 8-9) and think the reusable ones may not be absorbent enough.

I sometimes get bits of fossilised poo on the nappy after washing but these come off beautifully following a couple of hours' soak in warm water with some Napisan.

My dd is the same age and she sleeps in a boosted BumGenius from 10-9ish, with no leaks so far. I also find that she sleeps better in a BG than a disposable.

Do you need to use a liner? I never bothered and have found customers who have just end up channeling streams off poo. It comes off inthe wash and any lumps can be wiped off so i would just think of experimenting and removing the extra hassleof a liner. Yes they get better and bumgenius is one of the slimmer outfits. You will get used to the bulk and learn to love it and it will give baby extra protection when he or she lands on her bum. You will also have a very pretty washing line. Washing wise a cold rinse at first so as not to set in pee smell followed by a normal wash is recommended to reduce build up. enjoy

You are doing fab - like you said just persevere and it will work.
Poo's will start to become more solid and thankfully you are using BG's because in other nappies the poo can end up all over the liner and you LO's clothes !

How about fleece liners? I love them but it's really about finding something that works for you. BG's usually come up clean and wash well so poo or no poo it wont affect your nappies too much.
