New to Bumgenius - a few questions and some nasty details!

Hi

I want to get into washables and decided to try the Bumgenius v 3. I have purchased one and used it a few times - I only have one at the moment - and so far I like it, however ten week old dd has only pooed in it once which was today. I tried to clean it off using toilet paper but frankly her poos are runny and like glue! I used the hold and flush in loo method whic resulted in poo carnage in my toilet and all over the outside of the nappy but v little disappeared down the loo. I resorted to rolling it up and putting it straight in my machine on a pre-wash then a 60 wash complete with the fleece still stuffed in.

Is this ok? And any tips on dealing with this whilst out somewhere? She is formula fed with Aptamil and her poo is far from solid. Should I be using a liner? I have some but have refrained from using them as they seem a bit scratchy and unpleasant.
I have a seperate toilet and bathroom so can't use shower head.

Another q is at the moment when I change her when I pop the whole nappy in the wash, but someone said to me that you can just remove the fleece bit in the pocket and replace it if she it is just wee. Is this true?

Final question - Where can I get extra fleeces/stuffy bits from at a decent price and which are the best?

Thanks all

I put my Bumgenius straight in the machine: like you I tried to rinse it in the toilet and just ended up with a dripping wet nappy which was still covered in poo.

I use a fleece liner rather than a paper one.

I just replace the whole nappy when wet.

When out and about just bundle the nappy into a wet bag and deal when you get home.

Another tip is to forewarn anyone who might change nappies for you as my MIL chucked one of my BGs in the bin thinking it was a disposable.

Thank you so much for your advice and about your MIL!

I use fleece liners in my bumgenius, i try to get as much off with toilet paper as i can then stick the lot on the wash, i ALWAYS wash at 60 for a poo nappy. Luckily DD only wears them at night now shes potty trained and tends to wait until morning for the potty for number 2s now. DD2 due in may so it will be back to wiping down the toilet again lol.

As for the liners i have mainly home-made ones or the ones that came with my nappies but baby bots do some reasonable little lamb ones which i have added to my stash for new baby.

Good luck

I have never used liners with my BG.

When DS was tiny and milk fed I just stuck the whole nappy in the nappy bucket and washed when that was ful. As his poo has got progressively less runny (he's 21 months now)I get as much off as possible (I have a plastic scraper thing - one that came with a packet of depilation cream!) and then stick it all in the bucket.

Sounds hideous and it was something I didn't think I would be able to stomach when I was considering these things before DS arrived, however, it's actually fine.

Also, I wasn't sure what would happen to the poo - would I find lumps of it in the washing machine? Would everything smell of it? But aside from the occasions where whole raisins have got through, you wouldn't know.

I actually have more issues with getting the intense wee smell out than I do the poos!
