Nursing - Starting at the very bottom

Confessions first - I am 29 years old and have never done a thing with my life. I have always been the type of person that sat back thinking "something will come up" ... and obviously, it never did.

I've never had a job that lasted more than 6 months and my qualifications stretch as far as RSA clait.

So I've been thinking for a while now, I need to get off my arse and do something with my life. I looked into nursing ... thought, as usual ... "sounds too hard, I'd never be able to do that".

I put it off ... and put it off .... but today DH frog marched me into college and I have signed up to a pathway course (pysc, health studies and sociology) which takes me up until september when I start my access health course for a year which will HOPEFULLY lead me into university!!

I started it! I feel full of motivation and confidence! Has anyone ever started at the very bottom like this and made it?

Also, does anyone have any advise on finding voluntary work in NHS/care/medical environment etc?

Thank You!

i haven't but my best friend did! she qualified last year
you can work as a healthcare assistant while you study, i am not sure how you find jobs, but contacting your local hospitals would be a start

Ecellent well done.
Contact the voluntary services department of your nearest hospital and tey'll help you find something to do. Or like yesterday said work as a healthcare assistant / auxillary nurse.

when i did my nursing i didn't have a clue. i'd only been in a hospital to have babies. I didn't do the access course as my GCSEs counted but I did an A level in the year before. The girls who did the access course were a step ahead of me at the beginning as they were writing and learning in the right way.

Thanks for the advice. I phoned the volunteering department of the local hospital this morning but they're not there until Monday so I'll phone back then.
