Still in cot but nearly too big for travel cot - what happens now?!

DS is 19 months old and is tall. He is still fine in his cot, plenty of room and shows no desire/skill at climbing out and so he's staying in there for as long as possible!

However, he is pretty much end to end in his travel cot and I am worried about what to do with him when we go on holiday or stay with family/friends.

What have other people done in this situation? Any suggestions much appreciated.

readybed. My friend had one for her ds when he was small and was climbing out of the travel cot.

My sis had this problem and has managed to get a much bigger travel cot.

Apparently they come in lots of different sizes, so is worth asking at wherever you buy your baby-equipment from

I would second the ready bed. As it's on the floor they can't really fall out, but it may mean you do a few back-to-beds until he gets used to the concept. My DS seemed to think there was an invisible force field around his and used to shout for us to come and get him out of bed .

It does mean you have to think about access to stairs and things though. You can get travel baby gates if necessary.

You can get a My First Readybed - I keep meaning to get one for DD2 who is too big for the travel cot now.

The My First ones are really essential at that age as the bigger readybed (which are cheaper) they can flip over as DD2 proved on holiday last summer!

I had seen those Readybeds but worried that he was too young for them - I do also think that he will constantly climb out once he realises he can as he is quite 'spirited', if you know what I mean! Perhaps we could try it out at Granny's, where there is a stairgate, before we take the plunge and go on holiday.

Has anyway found a huge travel cot? They all seemed to be much of a muchness when we got ours.

What about a bedguard on a normal bed? You can get ones which fold up to almost noting for travelling..

We used to either take dcs into bed with us, or make them up a bed on a mattress on the floor.

Travel cots do come in different sizes, we had one that DS could still have used when he was 3.

My Graco travel cot is nearly the same size as my cotbed.

We have a My First Readybed and it is good, but it is not designed for use with a pillow. If your child uses a pillow this will halve the available sleeping area and in practice means they will grow out of it quickly.

We also have a Nomad travel cot which is huge and might be the way forward if you think he's too young for a bed.
