my dh was always a strong person a great big man with mountains of energy, but he really ill hes hardly working and financially im not coping, i cant worry him, they think hes got stomach cancer, basically weve had every test for everything else, weve had results come back and we have a appt with an oncologist now, to me that pretty much tells us, were not openly talking about it, we dont what to say, how can i go about finances, hes a proud man but with not working theres no money and we have 4 young sons.....can i have some advise please?

I am so sorry you are going through this. I cant really offer much but didnt want this to go unanswered.

I think your best bet would be to see CAB and ask them what benefits you will be entitled to.

Also check your insurances - see if your mortgage insurance offers critical illness cover. If your DH has been working then maybe his employers have him included on their critical illness policies.

I'm sure once this goes into active convos someone more knowledgeable will see it and be able to give you more detailed info.

Wishing you and your family lots of love and strength during this difficult time.

Also, if you have any credit cards, see if you have taken out protection with them (I know we have been paying for it but didnt realise it).

If you are going to need benefits to cope day to day, please make sure you apply as soon as possible as these things take a while to sort out.

I hope the oncologists appointment goes as well as you can hope xx

If your income has gone down, you need to advise the tax credits people too.

Sorry to keep drip feeding, just adding each time I think of something else.

sorry to hear about your dh's illness. may be worth you speaking to the MacMillan nurses, I believe they can help with benefits.

JackBauer · 26/03/2010 08:56

So sorry to hear this. I agree with tc, ask the MacMillan nurses as they will know what you are entitled to and who you should call.
They are on 0808 808 00 00.
