Ds stumbled on his words in school play

When it was his turn to say his piece he forgot them.
I felt awful for him and for myself sounds terrible I know but I felt embarrased watching this happen.
Has this happend with anyone else and their dc's and how did it make you feel sitting there watching.
He sort of managed to compose himself and spit out the words but he just wasn.t comfortable and I felt disappointed.
Am I the only one who has had the misfortune of seeing this happen with their dc in a play.
What makes it worse is that the other children seemed much more confident and hardly any forgot their words.
I still feel bad now silly or what.

do not communicate your disappointment or embarassment to him

how old is he?

When I saw Hamlet, Patrick Stewart stumbled a line.

It happens, no need to feel embarrassed.

He is 9 he does lack a little bit of confidence.
I have seen him perform really good before now.

Definitely don't mention it unless he does first, and then make light of it. If he thinks it was a massive faux-pas or suspects for a moment that you were embarrassed it will put him off for life (I speak from experience).

...and next time, with this in mind, bear in mind that he probably needs to rehearse more at home than he did this time (done that one too - DS was being so independent in learning his lines that I didn't get involved at all. He was fine, but it was clear that other children had been more 'coached' and to good effect).
