New to reusables- tips and advice on quick drying

Hi, this is my first post. I'm about to have my first baby (due yesterday!) and would really like to try reusables but theres so much info out there about different varieties its a bit overwhelming. My key criteria is low cost and quick drying as I dont have a dryer and dont want nappies lying all over the radiators.

Have found the Little Pants website and they seem good at recommending things - thinking of trialling Nature Babies lovables and P'tit Dessous mini-maxi - has anyone used these? Have also heard Motherease and Lollipop micros are good. Would appreciate any thoughts/advice on starting off. I plan to use disposables for a bit to start while I get used to motherhood but would like to try some reusables soon. Thanks mumsnetters!

Hi there
I have used reusables for both of my DCs, mostly tots bots and motherease. I used to dry them in the airing cupboard overnight, but since we moved they will dry on the radiator overnight. I put them on about 8.30 and they are dry when we get up about 6.30 so can put them out of the way for the day time. Now that the weather is better they dry fine outside. My friend has one of those old fashioned airer things on a pulley which works great if you have the room.
Good luck with the next couple of weeks, what an exciting time for you!

dont buy anymore then 2 of each type, because you dont know what will work and what wont for you.

microfibre nappies dry super fast, try little lambs for fitteds or bumgenious or coolababys for pockets.

best advice? just try loads of different things and find what you like best.

Motherease aren't particularly quick drying. Lollipop micros are pretty much identical to LL micros, but do not use LL wraps, they're rubbish!! Lollipop, Onelife, NatureBabies and Motherease wraps are some of the best IMO.
I love the Lollipop Pop'n'Gro which is also quick drying - a birth to potty all in one with 2 separate boosters, which gives loads of flexibility.

Bumgenius are quick drying and slim but don't have a leg gussett, so more chance of leaks unless the fit is absolutely right, wich it will be some of the time, but not at others.

I dry my nappies on an airer

onelifes take bloomin AAGES - really silly time to dry
bambo takes its time, so if you go for totsbots easyfits don't take the bamboo ones (there are quicker ones)
I would say itti bitti snap in ones take medium time
cushie tushies take their time as they are all in one
coolababy inserts dry on the airer in a matter of hours - they are microfibre (the outers dry even quicker)

so, if drying time is your main concern I would HIGHLY recommend coolababys. I wash em in the evening, hang them on the airer and they are dry in the morning (they are also good for other reasons)

I have now packed away all non coolababy inserts and use coolababy inserts in all my pocket nappies (incl wee notions), but any microfibre inserts would perform well with drying time I think

they also tick your low cost box:

Hi there and welcome to the world of Cloth!

Firstly Loveables are great and nice and slim, if used with the right wrap i think you will love them when your little one is newborn. Motherease wraps are great along with nature babies classic wraps.

Little Lambs are great nappies and very reasonably priced too. Micro fibre dries quickly so a very good investment if you need quick drying nappies.

I must disagree with NappyshedSal though (sorry sal),Lots of people dismiss the Little Lamb wraps too quickly after very old news that they leak! Little lamb have done a lot of work on their wraps in the past year, Also they have always been the basis upon which many companies have based thier wraps upon for years.

Coolababy nappies are really quick drying and great value. Would be great once little one gets a bit bigger, we recommend about 14/15lb upwards.

I've got a little airer that i hang over the window handle that i got in wilkinsons that i hang all my nappy bits on to dry ( i think its an underware airer, with lots of little pegs on) Then i leave the window on the latch and the air can then circulate around the nappies and dry them a bit quicker. Once the warm weather comes nappies will dry out side during the day.

If i can help with any thing drop me an email, address on site.

Bumgenius are really quick drying, easy to use and very reliable.

I agree with previous posters though, buy one or two of whatever you want to try and try it out first before you buy a stash.

Also I love the new totsbots stretchy bamboozles - pretty leak proof. I use with a motherease airflow wrap which are the best wraps I have found. The stretchy does take longer to dry than the bumgenius nappy, but it is a lovely nappy and is not too bad at all if you have radiators you can pop them on.

puffylovett · 24/03/2010 22:06

What nappyshedsal said but I also second about the Naturebabies Loveables, I have some pawprint ones which I just luuuuurve

I got a trial service from Boocoo.co.uk when DS2 was a couple of weeks old, it enabled me to try out most of the ones that've been mentioned for 2 weeks.

I went for Bumgenius in the end as they're super quick to try - BUT the fit isn't always that good all the time and we do get some leakage up the back which you don't get with a bomb proof 2 part system.

Good luck for forthcomning weeks...

salbysea · 24/03/2010 23:12

I have to disagree about the stretchy, it IS a lovely nappy but its one of the last to dry on my airer

tootootired · 24/03/2010 23:18

Ceiling airer somewhere above a radiator - it's 5x more efficient than a floor airer. Get one even if you don't have room, you can always take it down later. My motherease onesize used to dry in 24hrs if the heating was on. In summer, out on the washing line. It's partly about having enough nappies too.

Can you get a local nappy agent to come and bring some demo nappies/a trial kit out? That really helped me sort it out.

trellism · 29/03/2010 15:12

The Pop-in Dream Dri is almost dry out of the machine (I do an extra spin). I love them. BumGeniuses dry almost as fast.

I have a clothes horse in the nursery so we don't have drying nappies festooned round the house.

Montifer · 29/03/2010 15:19

I have Bumgenius and Wonderoos and prefer the BGs as they are less bulky.

I do a rinse and fast spin at the end of the wash and they are dry after an overnight hang on a laundry rack.

Good luck for the next few weeks
