Cats and new baby

Any way of keeping cats out of the crib/moses basket that doesn't mean shutting them out of the bedroom completely?

Our cats have always had access to our room and often sleep with us. I don't really want to shut them out. Quite apart from the yowling and shredded carpet at the door, I still love them and don't want to exclude them. The crib is difficult for them to jump into but not impossible. They've shown no interest in it so far.

A lot of the usual websites sell covers for the cot to keep the cat off but I would shut the door tbh.

It wasnt something I ever worried about before I discovered the cat asleep on my ds's face when he was 3 months old

I was worried about this as my 2 cats both sleep in our room fairly often, so I bought a cat net that you can put over the moses basket...which never got used.

The cats hated my DD crying at first, then when they got used to that they hated her waving her arms around randomly...now at 6 months old they hate her trying to grab their tails, although they seem to feel quite protective of her now!

I think it might be worth buying one for your peace of mind - you don't know how they're going to be until the baby's home.

We restricted our cats to the downstairs of the house when we had our baby - they soon got used to it.

If you don't like the idea of doing that you can easily get cat nets from plenty of places. John Lewis and Mothercare do them. We used to put one over the pram as it stayed downstairs and I didn't want our cats sleeping in it.

3.7 years down the line - our cats still keep their distance!

My cats never really bothered with my dds when they were small. Infact one of themm actually moved into the vicarge over the orad soon after dd2 was born and still lives there now. The other cat still avoids them like the plague to this day.

But I agree for peace of mind get a cat net.

I second all those saying get a cat net...

That said, I got one and never used it. DD is now 2.6 and the cats are now used to be mauled and "loved" but still vacate the area given the chance. Having said that, enormous male cat was asleep in DD's bed this evening. She thinks it's fantastic. I don't mind because she never sleeps in it - she's always in mine
