parenting with spastic diplegia - advice please

I am new to this so here goes -

I hope to start a family soon (fingers crossed) and I have spastic diplegia, which affects my ability to walk, stand and my balance.

On top of all the other things that must concern would be parents I am trying to get my head around how I will be able to lift and carry a child around with me, particularly as a new born. Worrying about this when I am not pregnant feels a bit excessive at times, but I am working on the basis that if I plan now, I might just manage to come up with a solution if/when I need it

To put this into context - I use a walking stick - can't carry a glass of water without spilling it and my balance can get thrown off by a shopping bag, a heavy book, or a plate of food.

Is there anyone out there with similar balance issues who found a way around this?

All advice gratefully received

Hiya

Dont ahve these issues but didnt want to leacve your post unanswered and did ahve a family I worked with whewre Mum had similar health issues.

I do know someone on here who has a lot of knowledge so will point her your way.

I know you would be entitled to someone from homestart (they charity I worked for) who would be able to help you find ways aorund doing things, and once preganant I woudl suggest you sak to be referred by your midwife.

Your midwife may also know other people in a similar situation, which IME of disability often helps for ideas and proper useful knowledge.

Will go see if I can track down Riven now, she is good for contacts

Thanks to you both for your speedy and helpful responss - homestart looks like a good place to start. I have also had some info from a Californian organisation called Looking Glass (via DPPI) which looks quite strange but possibly useful.
