safe toddler light?

i am wanting to make my toddlers room safer as i think he might be able to get out of his cot soon. currently just have a normal table lamp on the floor to use to read books at night and want something safer. does anyone know of any cord free lights that are strong enough to read by? I know you can get little night lights if my ds was to get scared but i think we need something brighter than this to use before he goes to sleep. I do know there are wall ones in ikea which i guess would be ok but that means there is still the issue of something plugged in at the wall. it is unlikely but he could start playing with that!

thanks

I have a kids bedside lamp of the sealed in light bulb variety (very much like the type Ikea sell) with a toggle switch, it is plugged in but behind a chest of drawers so DD cant get to the plug. Can you rearrange the furniture to hide the plug?

Otherwise you can get wall mounted battery operated kids lights but that could work out expensive. Some in Argos, Asda etc.

My dd has got this one It's great, toddler proof, she uses it to read books and it can be on all night for about 4/5 nights without needing re charging, can certainly reccomend.
I'm sure they will do more boyish ones of ds doesn't like pp.

cars one

I'm pretty sure that the ones messymissy is talking about are the ones that are £1.99 from home bargains at the moment if you're near one.

thanks for all your help. would be difficult to hide plugs so i might get one of the ones without plugs. he loves peppa pig so might get over myself and just get him the pink peppa one . so that is one less thing to worry about in terms of cot escaping...

ps needcoffee do you think it would be bright enough to read books to my ds if it was on chest of drawers and he was sitting on my knee? would it be bright enough for me to read it and for him to see pictures??

Fab-mmmm no I don't think so tbh. It is quite dim when used as a night light, just spreads a light haze ifswim but quite bright when used as a torch.
The other thing you could do is looking at having a wall light installed if you know an electrician or maybe a dimming switch?

We've got two Ikea flower wall lights. They screw on with 3 screws so are quite secure. You could also tack the trailing cable down so it's less of a hazzard - maybe still using a table lamp of some description on a shelf out of reach?

The energy saving bulbs take a while to warm up but they do get quite bright.

we have a "pat light". Like this one but a postman pat one we got from toys r us

My son (3 in march) has been in a bed for nearly a year now. I wrap the excess cord around the bed legs and if we are away i sellotape them together to make it as short as possible.

DS has a ben10 light like the one needcoffee says. It is good.

Never lasts 3-4 days though?

NeatFreak · 19/03/2010 21:16

I bought dd a battery operated wall mounted lamp from Asda last week for £2. I stuck it to the wall above her bed with sticky fixers and it is really secure and definitely bright enough to read by. I haven't had to change the batteries yet and am very impressed.

Ducty tape-I was quite suprised, I didn't charge it for ages after we got it, about 2 weeks and she had it on loads, it seems to recharge itself when it's turned off.

Obviously Peppa pig is far superior to Ben 10

NeedCoffee · 19/03/2010 22:11

Ha, sorry, didn't mean Ducty tape, meant DuctTape

thanks for all the suggestions. think i might be able to move furniture around a bit but also might look at the asda one too
