Who knows all about Ben 10? I need to educate myself!!!!

It seems that all little boys like Ben 10. My DS is 4 and all the boys at school talk about Ben 10 all the time. DS has a little Ben 10 figure which he adores.

So...

what is Ben 10 as opposed to Ben 10 alien force (a 5yo told me that the distinction was critical)

where can I learn which figure is which (need pictures!)

where can I find out other basic info about this stuff in order to converse with my 4yo!

Also, what channel is Ben 10 on and is it appropriate for a 4yo to watch or not? (I have freeview, no sky). Lots of Ben 10 toys are marked age 4+, so they seem OK for DS.

How much do you all know about Ben 10

Jamieandhismagictorch · 16/03/2010 18:23

Yes DS1 IS Sir Topham Hatt

MadameDefarge · 16/03/2010 18:23

I like the one(s) which are all the little clones ....

WildMutt is my fave, Jamie (must be the animal thing appealing to the little girl in me).

I like Ben10 (he's 10 yrs old, right?) the original show fine; it can be hard to actually find merchandise for it, now. Ben is always being scolded for not being mature enough -- plenty in there about learning to be clever & responsible and not merely recklessly & naively brave.

Alien Force is very dark & boring, from what we've seen!

TulipsInTheRain · 16/03/2010 18:58

Big Chill.... purely for the episode of Alien Force where he/she lays eggs

ds1 is a JetRay fanatic though (although he he loves Gwen too.... he really wanted a Gwen toy but the idiots who make the toys hardly make any Gwen ones at all and I couldn't get a hold of one, ds1 was gutted)

yellowcircle · 16/03/2010 19:02

there were loads of Gwens in Toys r us, the 10cm tall range.

aghh....Ben 10 Top Trumps. Only last year but a memory I had gladly filed away. I think my DS could name each character only having the numerical category info on them - geeeeeeeeeeeeek.

Endless hours flicking gogos about now. And then examining their numbers, place on chart, comparison to series two, yaaaaaaaawn.

TulipsInTheRain · 16/03/2010 19:19

thanks yellow, but i'm out the back of beyond in the west of ireland... choices a bit limited round here and couldn't find anything online either.

sometimes they do bogof on the fiver figures in tesco
my ds is mad on them, has been for the last 2 years, he is 6
for xmas he got the rustbucket from grandparents
for his birthday he got the alien force car
he has all the aliens
his little sis, 3, watches it too and loves it

TulipsInTheRain · 16/03/2010 19:30

ds1 has already requested the green car for his birthday, poor sod has another 5 months to wait

I refused to buy them Ben 10 merchandise, but they have Ben10 socks, pyjamas, shirts and vests... DS1 draws and cuts out his own omnitrix. DS2 makes them for his friends in nursery. I don't know how many nursery parents think what kind of parents we are for letting DS2 watch Ben10, but we don't actually have the cartoon network. We only have two of the comic books but DS1 learns everything from his friends and DS2 from DS1 ...

Agree with SarahMumtoAlex - let them explain things to you. It's quite sweet, really. (The explaining, not the plots etc.)

DSS (6) LOVES Ben 10 and ben 10 Alien force - unfortunately for him DD (5) usually grabs the remote first and switches on Hannah Montana or Suite life on deck! so he barely gets to watch it - suits me though, it drives me mad all those roaring sounds!!

he has the rustbucket (grandpa's campervan) and some balls that you put into water and they disolve and there is a little toy inside (as a result he quite likes science - so this is good!)

It's not a terrible program, better than power rangers.
Mind you he quite likes Hannah M too!! it's good having a girl and boy so close together, they like a combination - although on the point of Gwen dolls - DSS wanted an Oliver (from Hannah) doll, but we couldn't find one anywhere...so ben and action man now visit hannah at her house, when the jkids are playing together!!

It started when an alien device did what it did

And stuck itself upon his wrist with secrets that it hid

Now he's got super powers, he's no ordinary kid

He's BEN 10! BEN 10! BEN 10!

So if you see him you might be in for a big surprise

He'll turn into an alien before your very eyes

He's slimy, creepy, fast and strong
He's every shape and size

He's BEN 10! BEN 10! BEN 10!

With all new powers, he's on the case

Fighting off evil from earth and space

He'll never stop till he makes them pay

'cause he's the baddest kid to ever save the day

He's BEN 10!

I'm a teacher and I find Ben 10 a brilliant resource! I have never found it easier to get little boys engaged in writing and markmaking than with Ben Ten. Little 3 year olds drawing and cutting out circles independently to make ominatrix watches, matching colours, using complex language to describe the aliens, naming colours and counting 1-10. All done with enthusiasm! They have also imagined and created their own aliens! Not to mention rhyming words- Ben ten gwen, kevin eleven. Obviously the 'violence' is discouraged but quite honestly haven't really had any incidents just the odd shriek and whoop and karate style stance- Had much worse with The Turtles and www Wrestling!

LtEveDallas · 28/03/2011 22:02

When we lived overseas we only had Cartoon Network for DD (and discovery or BBC world news for us) She got into Ben10 and so did I Blush. I was soooo excited when they showed a 'real' film (double Blush). On her 4th birthday I was so pleased to get her an omnitrix and a rustbucket. I was brill with the Omnitrix (DD was rubbish ha!)

when we came back to UK we got Sky and Ben10 faded into Tom N Jerry, Strawberry Shortcake and Micky Mouse Clubhouse. The omnitrix has disappeared and rustbucket has been covered in fairy sticker and is used to transport barbie.

I'm gutted Sad
