Can my DC sleep in a double bed rather than two toddler beds?

We have always co-slept with our two babies, the first until 12 months old, the second (14 months) is still in with us. At 1, we moved our oldest DC into her own bedroom without any problems and she slept on a mattress on the floor (her choice). She now at 3.3 years sleeps on a double bed which happened to have always been in her bedroom, from before we had her. She is happy in her double bed, never falls off etc.

We are thinking of moving DC2 into that bedroom shortly and I am wondering if they can both sleep in the double? They are used to sleeping with each other, as DC1 often sneaks back into our bed, so there are four of us sharing most nights. I don't think DC2 will fall out, as she is used to sleeping in our double bed, alone between the hours of 8pm - midnight when we go to bed.

Am I missing something? Will it be ok for them to share a double bed? I know they will be happy to do so but from a safety / other perspective?

I dont see anything wrong with it.

Only problems I can see if when they are abit older and squabble over who has pinched the most space etc., but then my Nephews squabble with 2 singles anyway I would use 2 single duvets though

You're not missing anything, of course they can just share a double bed, nothing wrong with that at all.

yes i am sure it'll be fine, I know of a coupel of co-sleeping families who did this because they knew the children would be happier and it's worked out fine

We have done this on holiday, seems to work out fine. I'm sure there would be some pairs of children who would kick or otherwise disturb each other but if yours are used to sharing beds I'm sure they will be okay.

Although actually for a 14 month old I would probably get a barrier thing to make sure she doesn't fall out of bed, as she will have less space if she's sharing the bed with her sister.

And from a historical point of view everyone having their own beds is a fairly modern thing, in the past the whole family would share a bed, so certianly nothing wrong with it from a safety side.

I can't see anything wrong with it - haven't we all shared with siblings when on holiday at least?

The only time there might be trouble is if one's refusing to sleep and keeping the other awake - but that's nothing to do with having the same bed - that would happen if they were just sharing the room too.
