No. Not me, you crazy fools. I manage perfectly well thanks.

But it is getting a bit ridiculous with my 5 yo. He can manage at school. Well, he can't actually, but at least he attempts it. At home, he refuses. We have tried sitting it out [heh heh] but he'd cut off the circulation in his legs before DIYing.

Yer best tips for getting paper to crack please. And preferably then into the bog and not on floor. With no dirty protest in between. Thanks.

whatever switches him on - choc buttons, one piece of lego from those teeny sets like this , star chart

Any good ??

take him shopping for his own paper - look at patterned bog roll and patterned kitchen roll too, baby wipes, face wipes, make up removing wipes - anything with a packet that catches his eye.

Agree with flushable wet bum wipes - lots of children find them much easier.

rofl at 'demonstrate the stance'. Ye-e-es. Although I tend to think that's a job for his dad

We did use kandoos with DS1 (it was a long time ago - I had forgotten about the arse-wiping battles). I am slightly since that also coincided with our need to buy a set of drain rods and send DH in in a hazmat suit.

Make him do a poo in 'Paul's bathroom'...that will solve all problems

Pannacotta · 15/03/2010 20:29

Until quite recently DS1 (also 5) used to object to wiping his own arse at home (much to my dismay).
However, suddenly he is an independent bum wiper and seems to be doing ok.
If he does a really runny poo he might ask for help, otherwise he manages. We do have toddler wipes (not Kandoo though as I can't bear the adverts).

Can you help him until he is ok managing on his own? If no then yes why not bribe him?

yellowcircle · 15/03/2010 20:32

Watching with interest. My 4yo will poo at home and pull his pants and trousers up without wiping his arse . He knows it should be done, but if he thinks I'm not looking/concentrating, he will try to get away without doing it.

whomovedmychocolate · 15/03/2010 20:36

Yell 'poo patrol' each time until he does it!

WilfSell · 15/03/2010 22:06

Well, we did the kandoo thing this evening, courtesy of a timely Ocado van.

Hmm. It was kind of like spreading nutella wetly all up his back.

Oh well, at least he tried. I think we may need some 'wet poo' catching techniques.
