My OH started feeling unwell on tues and from wed was having sickness/diarrhoea and had to stay at home for 2 days and still not himself now

Now my 3 month old boy has it. Yesterday he only took approx 10oz milk when usually its 28oz for the day. He vomited his breakfast and lunch milk. Today so far hes had about the same and still sicky.
Hes also got tummy cramps on and off and had only a few wet nappies but loads of poos which are runny and now green.
Hes either sleeping or crying and im not sure what to do.

When should i start to worry more than i am and speak to my HV or doctor?
Ive given him calpol twice yesterday and once today coz it says no more than twice without seeing a doctor.

NHS direct website has specific advice for under 2's I believe.

It can be a concern with children as young as your ds that they get very dehydrated very quickly

It sounds like he has a Norovirus type thing, make sure you clean up thoroughly after any vomit / runny poos, and it sounds obvious but wash your hands very well to avoid you getting it too! (Although the current strain is airbourne, which is why it is everywhere it seems!)

Do contact doctor if your ds seems listess / has high temp for a prolonged period, also following NHS advice (sorry can't link)

Me and dd had an awful time with Noro, I came down with it, then her, she had it for around 4/5 days. It didn't get to dh though

I would take him to the Dr.

Also, make sure you're keeping his fluids up. Pay attention to how much he's peeing - the Dr will ask about this.

My DS has just had this - it's lasted a week, and he was pretty miserable for the first 3 or 4 days . The Dr was most concerned to see if he was dehydrated. He wasn't, but she said it was definitely the right thing to do, bringing him in.

Oh, I've just seen he's only 3 months. I'd definitely take him if I was you, just to be on the safe side.

at such a young age, he needs assessed today.

my dd (9mths) has just had this. spoke to doc and he said to keep offering her fluids, little and often to prevent dehydration
signs of dehydration are;
lack of wet nappies (though i found this difficult to monitor with all those runny nappies!)
lack of tears when crying
skin becoming less elastic on chest (should just ping back if you pinch it gently)

if you're worried, ring nhs direct and they'll talk you through what to look for and get you an appointment if you need to see someone

3 months is so young though - IMO you shouldn't take any chances and go to the Dr ASAP.

We're not doctors, and the OP shouldn't be relying on diagnosis by internet forum!

In any case, we're so lucky to have decent health care available to us free of charge. Many people aren't so lucky. We should make better use of it IMO! We um and ah over going to the Drs when many people would love to have that choice to make.

Thanks everyone. Phoned NHS direct and they advised to keep hydrated and if not any better by tomorrow (monday), call the dr.

Hes been the same today as well, sick once, 4 runny poos and taken around 15oz. But he does seem brighter in mood when awake and happier

hes just tired all the time and still got cramps.

We are being careful with hygiene etc. I work as a nurse so all clued up but its sooo different when its your own flesh and blood and your nursing knowledge goes out the window and i also work with adults not children so wondering if its different.

Hope tomoorw brings a brighter day

Thanks xxx

Poor thing

It's horrible isn't it. Great to hear he's feeling a bit better though - I hope he gets well soon.

FWIW if it's the same thing as DS just had, we found that the first 3 days were the worst. After that he got noticeably better - particularly in his mood - but he didn't then bounce back as quickly as we expected. The vomiting and particularly pooing lasted a few days more. We kept arranging things to do the following day, hoping he'd be better, then having to cancel them.

It took about a week all in all to leave his system.

Neither myself nor DP caught it. A friend who visited did though, but it was much less sever in him than in DS.

I hope baby sparkleshine feels better soon

oops - less severe, I mean!
