Hi, my 2 1/2 year old recently had a bed cold out which she came out with a rash..its mostly underneath her knickers(100% cotton except elastic).I thought that it was elastic but when I put a pair with elastoc hemed in she still got a rash.So I guess it must be detergent. What now, what to use? (been using Arial biological gel)Thou why its limited to her knicker area its anybodys guess..

you could try washing them in surcare (it's in most supermarkets) and skip the fabric softner and see if that helps. or even get those laundry balls that don't use anything.

What about bubble baths and that? they could also be helping the rash.

My ds got eczema just on the back of his right knee, now thats odd

I am allergic to Ariel and anything biological, and always have been (am 39). It's probably confined to her knicker area as that is where her clothes are most closely fitted, and where she gets warmest. It's not uncommon to react to bio washing products.

Anyway, I am OK with laundry porducts for sensitive skin - all the branded ones (Persil Sensitive) etc - as well as the supermarket own brands, so I suggest you try them. Have been using Asda own for sensitive skin for years, as it is always on offer! I also never use fabric softner - white vinegar instead works a treat!

Agree with OPs esp. the laundry ball; it's brill for colours and softeners you don't need either or detergent!!

To treat your DDs rash try99% aloe vera gel it's good and quite gentle.

Furball the eczema on your DS's knee could be an allergic reaction to oranges, tomatoes etc.

ppeatfruit - interesting about the tomatoes and oranges. - DS has never been a fan of both and I can't remember the last time he had an orange (he's now 8)

It started between 2 fingers on his right hand, and he suffered quite badly with that, it cleared up when he was about 5 or 6, but then appeared behind his right knee........it stayed there for a while, cleared up and then appeared on his left big toe before disappearing altogether. quite bizarre.

Soapnuts are a natural detergent, which have worked for over a year since I developed problems with Surcare and other detergents. They are very mild so will need to pre-soak clothes with dirt on.

My allergies started 30 years ago with Persil biological, which we NOW know was eating clothes in washing machines... and the maker P&G swore blind it had no problems... but chemists know better! ... so ignore what the detergent makers say and “follow the evidence” in front of you.
