Evening Milk

DD1, 3.8 and DD2, 20 months, like their warm milk in the evening. Think DD2 still needs it, she's such a skinny little thing.

It's become quite a ritual, we all have a cuddle and watch Night Garden, then go up for the bath after.

I'd like to stop DD1 having the milk. She eats really well and nutritionally she doesn't need, just wants it because DD2 has it. She's also getting a bit of podge, more than her usual bulk up and then grow out of all her trousers podge, so I don't think she needs the calories either.

Any ideas on how to gently stop her having it? Think I am going to switch her to semi-skimmed but would really like to stop it all together while keeping DD2 having it.

so you're giving up dd1's evening milk as she's getting fat

That's nice. Very helpful indeed.

She's almost 4. She never actually had evening milk until DD2 started having a regular evening bottle, so it's only been the last 6 months or so and nutritionally she simply doesn't need it, she gets plenty of milk/yogurt/cheese through the day.

I wouldn't stop it to be honest, it hardly seems fair if the little one is having it. My dd still had bedtime milk aged 8, it's the start of her bedtime routine and is a really useful marker for the end of the day. If she is overweight, you are probably better off to look at what she eats during the day and how much activity she has. I can't see one cup of milk having much effect, especially if you switch to semi skimmed.

why not just start giving less milk in her cup and switch it to semi-skimmed - no need to cut it out completely.
