Bad nappy rash - cloth or disposables?

DS has nappy rash. He's 20 months and has been largely free of rashes apart from one severe incident when he was 6mo. This one has come from nowhere - he has a blazing red bum and grabs his nappy because it hurts.
We're cloth folks here, but I was wondering whether it might be an idea to put him in disposables until this has cleared up? Or just change him a bit more often?
How about overnight? He's in a washable tonight but I don't have any disposables in.

We're onto the metanium, and the cause is likely teeth (he is sucking his fingers, and has mild diarrhoea, and this is usual for teething but not usually the rash).

silver liners - try ecoearth online - great for rash - just pop in instead of a paper one. Metanium is ace. Try some vaseline too as a barrier.

Hope gets better soon

Thanks - I did wonder about the liners I have. (Bambino mio.) I thought I wouldn't really want them next to a sore bottom!

If is very sore they may stick to the sore bits - fleece is good too. Silver ones are natural healers. Silk ones not great as the fluff stocks to the sore bits aswell!

A bit of nappy-free time works wonders - as long as his bits don't get too chilly in this weather!
