Recommendations for night boosters for Bambinex Teddies or Motherease One Size nappies, please

DS is 9 weeks old. I'm just starting out with my reusable nappies. I have some birth to potty Motherease nappies and Bambinex Teddies, with one ME Rikki wrap, and some Onelife wraps on order.

Can anyone suggest how to boost them for night time?

DS is obviously not sleeping through yet but I am trying not to change his nappy at night (unless pooey) or else it wakes him up too much to go back to sleep. So I am ideally looking for something that will give me 12 hours' containment.

And will my existing wraps be okay for night time?

I have the pop-in liners for the ME nappies, but according to the Nappy Lady website these are not needed for under 16lb (DS is approx 14lb, I think.) I am using the ME nappies on the 'newborn' set of poppers still, so I don't know whether the liners would fit in the nappy on this setting.

I also have lots of prefolds which I could use as boosters, but will happily buy extra boosters.

Anything fairly quick drying would be preferable, although not absolutely essential.

TIA.

Hello - I think you will be fine with the nappies/boosters you have - when the nappy lady said under 16lbs it means that they can't be poppered in but there is no reason why you can't just lie them on top. Motherease wraps will be fine overnight. You can also lay the ME boosters in the bambinex nappies.

Thanks, Octo - I'll give that a go. The disposable lasted 4 hours two nights ago, and the disposable plus Rikki wrap lasted 7 hours, so hopefully I'll manage to get longer with all reusables.

Update: I used the Teddy nappy with the daytime booster which came with it, and the Rikki wrap. It was 7 hours before it leaked, so definitely better than a disposable on its own. I'll try it with a ME booster next time.

I'm not convinced about the fit of the Rikki wrap on DS. His legs are really fat at the top, but because he has a pot belly, the wrap slips under the bulge which maks it hard to get it tight enough at the top. I can tighten it there, but it's difficult not to get his legs too tight then. When there's been a leak through the wrap, it's been from the waistband.

Hopeully the poppered Onelife wraps I've ordered may be better in that respect.

Popper wraps would def fit him better - motherease air rika good too - I like onelife ones - binding is nice.

Thanks; the Onelife wraps arrived this morning, so I'll give them a try tonight.

I'm desperate to find a combination that will last longer - DS is a hideous nightmare to get to sleep, and it doesn't help when he is woken up at least once a day by his nappy having leaked. If I can get his night-leaking habit sorted, I just might be able to persuade him to return to his old habits of having a good long sleep at the start of the night

I would recommend a fleece soaker - like pumpkin pants but they tend to work better when they are a little older - worth a try though - there are a few UK stockists.

I would definitely try the ME booster inside the MEOS... fold it over at the front for a boy for extra absorption where it counts!
If you want an even thicker booster for nights, you could always try the TotsBots bamboo booster... it's hourglass shaped, so not too bulky, but a bit thicker than the ME booster too.

Hopefully the Onelife poppered wraps will work better too... you can always put a fleece soaker, or wooly wrap/shorties/longies over the top of the wrap for extra protection... we have to do this for night-times too, as our LO is super-strength weer. Lovely.

Other wraps which I love for nights are the WN poppered wraps... love the designs, of course, but like the soft lycra binding they use too... always think it must be more comfy for sleeping.

Thanks, Octo & Cheeksandcherries.

Well, the MEOS + ME booster + Onelife wrap lasted all night - 10 hours until there was an enormous poo explosion (which was nonetheless contained within the wrap). Hooray!

I've heard people recommending fleece soakers before. Would they be suitable for a baby who is still swaddled?

Thanks for all the help.

PS My MEOS nappies smell of damp rooms - very fusty (and smell worse when they get wet). They are preloved, and I've washed them in bio detergent and then strip washed them lots and lots of times. Any suggestions as to how to get rid of the smell? Thanks

Brilliant... that's a result!

I should think fleece soakers would be OK for a swaddled baby... it's a very breathable layer, and fleece covers are often specifically recommended for babies in very hot countries, so shouldn't imagine there ought to be any over-heating issues.

You can buy them here

Sorry - no idea what to do with the smell issue, if you've strip washed lots. My only last, and poss. controversial thought, would be to try some Bold 2in1 liquid on them. Although it does contain a softener, it's not meant to clog the fibres of cloth nappies like other fabric conditioners. They come in a range of heady fragrances which might do the trick on the aroma side of things... ? Might be worth a go, anyway...

You could get some nice smelling sanitiser - Home Scents do a nice range.

legscrossed · 12/03/2010 16:35

cant you put bicarb of soda and white vinegar in the wash, dunno what it does but maybe its a sanitising measure.
Mine were smelling kind of sweetish (teddies) so I just upped the soap powder (fairy) from level tablespoon to sl heaped n wacked temp up.
Seems better

AngelDog · 24/03/2010 09:14

A belated update: Home Scents laundry sanitiser did improve the smell of the MEOS nappies, although they still have a bit of a residual smell. I'm not having much success, though, as I think the wraps I have are now too small for DS - when I used them with the MEOS nappies, they leaked around the legs so badly that when he woke up, both legs of his sleepsuit were sodden right down to the feet!

I seem to be thwarted at every turn.
