ROUTINES for older babies

Hi everyone

Just wondering about routines for my 7 month old. He is weaning well and on three meals a day but I don't quite know thw best time to give him milk as he is either full from eating or I don't want to put him off his food by filling him with milk. Also best nap times and how much sleep?

Thanks

At 7 mo, I think they still need 20oz of milk (including that used in food e.g. small yoghurt = 2oz etc).

My LO had the following routine:

7am: 6-8oz milk
8.30am: BREAKFAST
9.30am: nap (30 mins only - I would wake him after 30 mins so he slept well at lunchtime)
11.30/11.45am: LUNCH + water
12.30pm: nap (2 hours - woken at 2.30pm if not already awake)
2.30pm: 6-8 oz milk
4.30pm: TEA + water
6.30pm: 6-8 oz milk
7pm: bed

I basically followed a Gina Ford schedule, which whether you love or loathe her, was really 'sensible' and worked well for us! If my DS slept poorly at lunch, I would take him out in the buggy at about 4pm and give him a 20min kip to see him through to bed time.

Good luck

I followed the Annabel Karmel routine in her baby and toddler meal planner in terms of food/milk. Pretty similar to the one above tbh, though I think she had breakfast first, then milk mid-morning.

At 7 months DD was having a nap at 10.30 ish and one in the afternoon around 3-ish, for about 30mins - 1 hour.

I remember feeling like I was constantly feeding her! She gradually dropped the afternoon milk feed for a snack instead, then dropped the morning milk. She still has bedtime milk now at 23 months.

Remember that until a year they should still be getting most of their nutrition from milk, so I personally don't worry about milk filling my son, who is nearly 9 months. It is obvious that sometimes he just doesn't want any 'food' so I give him a bit more milk.
