Leaking Itti Bittis

I've been using Itti Bittis on DD for about the last four months. She's now 10 months and, for the last few weeks, they've been leaking badly round the legs. Sometimes they leak in less than an hour.

Does anyone have any ideas what's gone wrong? Given her size and age, I'm not really up for buying any more reusables in this size, and I'm on the verge of moving back to disposables...

Give them a strip wash - wash them without any detergent - could just be a build up or they may need a snap in booster to give a little extra abosrbency.

That's a good idea. Thanks. I've tried a couple of snap in boosters and they didn't do much. Detergent build up is a good idea. I'm in London so a really hard water area too. Do you know whether they might get build up like a kettle, etc would?

Just realised there was a typo in my last post. DD's 18 months, not 10. Poor child, mother pays no attention to her!

What size are you using? Perhaps they don't fit around the legs like they should? Mine have leaked too from 18 months, someone told me that perhaps at that age the child can hold onto wee and have a big wee which the nappy can't cope with all at once. And this could be a sign of being ready to potty train? I'm not sure and have just had DS2 (DS1 is now just over 2) so I'm not in a rush to potty train. I'm in a hard water area too. Also you need to take really good care of the outers so they don't start to plasticize and get crunchy.

maybe - I live in a hard water area but have a softener for whole house except incoming mains in kitchen - but could be reason. White furry nappies lol

No idea what I could do, bar soaking them in vinegar!

MrsJamin - pls don't say the 'p' word. Have vowed after last time that potty training only takes place in warm weather for speedy line drying and limited clothes...

RibenaBerry what weight is your daughter and what size Ittis do you have?
I'd expect her to need large unless she's a skinny mini.

RibenaBerry · 09/03/2010 07:56

Yup, large. Did a strip wash and it's a bit better, but think I'm going to give myself a week or two off and re-try them, and give them a good few washes in the meantime...

Has she recently got mobile? If so she could have lost weight off her bum, and now the large are too large, and the medium would fit again - was wondering her weight/build?

Do you use popper vests? I found that vests that popped at the crotch are cut to close to the legs and made them wick, putting a pair of tights under the vest before doing it up worked, or big girls vests.
