OK to ask DS' Dad for more money?

Just need some extra advice on this.

My DS' dad pays monthly maintenance through the CSA, possibly not to what his salary is but I wouldn't want to rock the boat by asking them to investigate him so just leave it be.

Anyway my DS has two big trips approaching this year, one with school for nearly £300 and the other with his scout troop again for nearly £300.

Do you think it reasonable that I ask him for a contribution towards said trips or should his monthly payments cover everything? I never ask him for more money towards anything else usually.

Thanks for any advice.

There is no harm in asking, is there any other fmaily member that maybe able to help aswell?

my dd1 had a school trip to france in year 7 and I asked her dad if he could contribute at all.

i explained that another relative was also going to contribute and i he could we could split the trip 33% each?

He actually said yes and coughed up 180 quid or his share - but in stages as I knew there was no way I would get one lump so I explained I was paying £20 per month and could I put 40 in and get his £20 each time

that way it sofened the blow asking for £20 over a few months is a lot different from asking or the whole share in one go.

The schools usually do ask for amounts payments spread out.

Thanks Ivy. The one trip needs to be settled by the end of this month but the other has a few months' grace.

He's only in year 6 so I fear this is the start of a few years worth of trips etc!
