Washable pull-ups/trainer pants

DD3 is in washable nappies (mixture of itti bittis and bg's) but is keen on using the potty/loo, and keeps trying to get her nappy off. She has occasionally managed to get something in the potty. She's only 21 months, and therefore at the young end of readiness for potty training, but she's keen to copy her older siblings, and clearly understands when she's done a wee/poo, so I want to at least enable her to try to be independent if she's showing an interest.

We are out and about a lot, especially with the older dc's, and I'm very tempted by the idea of pull-ups as a safe halfway step to 'big girl pants'

Can anyone recommend any washable pull-ups, or give me any advice? thanks all.

Bumping, as I would love to hear advice on this, too... I posted about this a while back - you could look that up = but I'm still looking for more recommendations.

how weird lol lol

You could try a stretchy pocket nappy like a fuzzi or motherease all in one xs but not great for the stage you are at. I think there is a minki nappy that is great for this - cant remember exact name but website is www.nappiesbyminki.co.uk

I would recommend kushies bright trainers for training and night training - they do hold a full wee so kind of in between. They sell them at www.thebabycatalogue.com - get the bright ones though - much nicer. Dont nromally suggest kushies but these have been fab.

HTH and apologies for random message lol

Minki YoYo - I've got one for DD but it is just like a fastened pocket nappy with no insert and elasticated waist/legs.

DD rubbish so far with the potty training but this seems a bit too much like a nappy for her.

octothechildherder · 27/02/2010 21:27

ooh would def go for the kushies then - ds3 hasn't really needed them but ds1 and ds2 wore them for training and then night training and they were fab and cheap lol

fatsatsuma · 27/02/2010 21:29

Thanks for all the replies.

JennyWren - I searched for your thread and found various others on the subject, but not yours! Prob didn't look properly
What did you discover?

What I'm looking for is something like the kushies bright trainers - only needs to contain one accident, and as much like pants as possible. The minki yoyos do sound rather more like nappies.

Can anyone recommend Pocket Bots or Bright Bots

I temporarily used a washable pull up pant with ds1 (can't remember which type but it actually pulled on like pants). It was a disaster as he pooed in it and getting it off was horrible. After a few days I decided to wait and go for it when he was ready for regular pants.

octothechildherder · 28/02/2010 09:20

None of the other training pants actually hold a wee or poo! They just have a little waterproof strip in them which is useless!

I'm not a fan of kushies nappies but these are really good.

this site has a good range, we used the padded pants for my DD at night, they are very much like ordinary pants and you can add an extra pad if neccesary.

I'm afraid to say that I never managed to find any kind of washable pull up or training pants that were any use at all. Bright bots were ok for once they were basically potty trained and I just needed a little extra reassurance when at a friends house that they wouldn't do a puddle on the floor, but OMG if you end up with a poo in them (or a full wee) it's a disaster.

The ones on the site recommended by spottydog with velcro sides look great though (although no baby sizes so they might be too big for a 21 months old).

I gave in at about 20 months and started using disposable pull ups (the nature baby ones are v good) so that we could make regular potty trips. The upside was that she was out of nappies about 2 months later and I'm sure that using pull ups making lots of potty much trips much easier to do helped that along.

I think as she's keen, if it were me I would have a discussion with her and agree it's pants if she wants them like her siblings but she has to tell you if she wants to go. Then explain if she can tell you BEFORE she needs a wee/poo (with reminders) for the next day or so so that you can help her with the nappy off, and if she is successful then you'll probably do away with the nappy w/o spending out on pull ups.

At 21 months they always want to please
